Prince George, B.C. -  Today marks the 6th annual World Rivers Day, with events planned around the globe.

Here in Prince George, the 10th annual Rivers Day Music Festival will begin at noon in Fort George Park, with a full slate of musical talent scheduled for the bandshell.

The free event runs until 4pm and is meant to celebrate our rivers through water stewardship, environmental education, and community involvement.

The Two Rivers Brass Quintet, representing the Prince George Symphony Orchestra, will kick the celebrations off with a 50-minute exploration of water-related musical themes.

Daniel Lapp is also on the line-up.  Lapp grew up in Prince George, but has since travelled around the world playing his fiddle and trumpet.  And the headline group is the Ken McCoy Band.

The Nadleh Whut-en Dancers will also perform this afternoon.

For those wanting to do some river research before heading out to the park, the organization 'The Big Wild' has assembled an information graphic that highlights the world's top 20 rivers.  Click here,  to check it out.

For those wanting to do some river research before heading out to the park.

I have another idea. Check the Rafe Mair or the Tyee website. Youll get great ideas on whats happening to our rivers in British columbia.
