Prince George. B.C.- While the formal announcement of the Pickton Public Inquiry commissioner and the inquiry's terms of reference are scheduled to be made public tomorrow, there is growing speculation the person who will be named as Commissioner is former Attorney General Wally Oppal. In fact, the CBC is saying it’s a done deal.
There are already questions being raised about possible bias.
Oppal, was the Attorney General for B.C. when Robert Willie Pickton went to trial for the murder of 6 women who had disappeared from Vancouver’s East side.
The trial of Pickton started January 22nd of 2007, and the Jury delivered it’s verdict, guilty of six counts of second degree murder, on December 11th of the same year.
About two months after that verdict, Oppal commented that if the courts upheld Pickton’s convictions there would be no second trial covering the other 20 murder charges that were not covered in the original trial.
Oppal was a former Judge with the B.C. Supreme Court and the B.C. Court of Appeal before leaving the bench to become a politician.
He was defeated in a provincial general election in May 2009.
The public hearing is expected to examine how police dealt with reports of women disappearing from Vancouver's east side.
Vancouver police conducted an internal review of the investigation and their report detailed a number of errors on their part and on the part of the RCMP.

Bad idea.
This will taint any inquiry before it even starts.
For a party that is trying to raise their popularity level, this was a very dumb move!
