Canadian Forest Products, Abitibi Consolidated, Pope & Talbot  and the  local Steelworkers Local 1-424 members, donated a total of $15-thousand dollars to buy the specialized equipment that is now used for weekly physiotherapy at Mackenzie and District Hospital.

Speaking on behalf of the donors, Canfor's Lloyd Franks says, "We see this service as an enormous benefit to our employees, their families and the community at large."  Franks says, "We're all interested in making sure that Mackenzie residents have access to health services that assist in improving their recovery from illness and injuries and contribute to a stronger community."

The physio is now available every Saturday, serving as many as 22 patients a day.  And there is the potential for increased service levels in the future.  "Having physiotherapy available locally will help reduce travel to access the service," says Northern Health's Barb Crook, who manages the Mackenzie Hospital.

Prince George-North M.L.A. Pat Bell says, "This physiotherapy initiative is a good example of how different organizations can come together to provide a key local benefit, and I'm pleased to see it come into place."

I always find it funny when a politician chimes in on how good something is when it was a group of local companies or volunteers who did all the work. If the government would fund medical equipment as they should then let them take credit but till then I would rather hear from from Mr. Frank and his cohorts.
If, as Bell says it is "a key local benefit", why is it not provided by the Medicare? Were we not all promised medical treatment when and where we needed it? All credit to the companies for stepping in when the Liberals have stepped out, but this is just one example of how medical services have declined since the Liberals formed the government.
