City Councillor Cameron Stolz is holding a news conference at noon Thursday, and the speculation is he will announce he will be seeking the Conservative nomination for the federal riding of Prince George-Peace River .
Stolz is currently serving his first term on Prince George City Council and is active on a number of City committees, from the Downtown Partnership to the Finance and Audit Committee. He is also a member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and serves on three of the FCM's committees:
- Finance and Inter-Governmental Arrangements
- Municipal Infrastructure and Transportation
- FCM/Railway Association of Canada Proximity Issues
Stolz is now the fourth candidate in the running for the seat held by Jay Hill. After 17 years as the M.P. for the riding, Hill has announced he will step down October 25th. It is generally thought that whoever gets the nomination is a virtual shoe-in for the seat.
Already in the race are three men from the Peace Region and all three have had some affiliation with the Conservative Electoral Riding Association:
Dan Davies is a past director of the riding association. He is a lifelong resident of Ft St John and at present works as a school teacher in that city.
Don Irwin, He is a director with the Conservative Electoral District Association for the riding. He is a Ft. St. John City Councillor, serving his second term.
Bob Zimmer who has stepped down from his post as Secretary and CEO of the Conservative Electoral District Association (EDA) for the riding, Zimmer is 41 years old, was born in Dawson Creek, and lives in Fort St. John. He has been the past President of the Conservative Electoral District Association.
