Prince George, B.C.- As expected City Councillor Cameron Stolz has announced he is seeking the Conservative nomination for the Prince George-Peace River riding. (see previous story)
In his noon hour news conference, Stolz  praised the work done by M.P. Jay  Hill in serving this region, and said he hoped to be able to continue on with Hill’s good work. Hill will officially bow out of politics October 25th.
Stolz is now the fourth candidate in the running for the nomination which is considered a  Conservative  strong hold and practically guarantees the candidate a seat in Parliament. The other three candidates  either have held positions as Directors with  the Electoral Riding Association but  Stolz says he doesn’t see that as a disadvantage to his own candidacy “The existing three candidates have been involved in the association, but this is about a nomination battle and the nomination battle is who can sign up the most members, who can go out and find the most people who want to send them to Ottawa. I believe I can sign up more members than they can.”
Stolz says he will now start travelling to the Peace region to make folks in that region more aware of his candidacy but doesn’t believe  this effort will impact his work as a City Councillor “Being a City Councillor  is a part time position and I think I am capable, as I have done over the last number of years, of balancing both well and doing my job exceptionally well.”

I'm not that sure lining yourself up behind Jay Hill and praising all his "good work" is all that smart.
A party nomination battle is totally different from a federal election battle. The chance of someone other than a right of centre candidate winning the the seat as MP is extremely slim.

The real battle in this case is the nomination battle for the Conservatives.

I understand your point Anydfreeze when seen from the perspective of someone outside the Conservatives' camp. However, from the inside I suspect Jay had strong following. If that is the case, then has to walk a very fine line when one says one can do better.

Unless it is well known that there are people who are glad there is an opportunity for change here, one needs to be careful to not lose those votes. Again, if the state of the union of membership numbers is dismal then there is a chance that enough people can be signed up to win a majority.

With 4 or more people running, this can make for an interesting nomination election night unless a more experienced and well connected person is yet to join the race who may take it on the first ballot.
jeez you must have a miserable life Andyfreeze. Although I dont usually comment, I do have to say that over the last years or more I have yet to hear a joyful sign of any life from you. Either you love being negative ALL the time or your ideological straightjacket just wont let you break free from your dismal life.

Try a smile sometime before you check out....you may just like it :)
Have we received something to smile about lately?? I must have been sick that day.
We already have a representative in Ottawa from this area. Good or bad it is Dick Harris.

I think that it makes more sense for the Pr George Peace River MP to come from the Peace River district. They need as much representation as we do.

Stoltz will try to sign up as many of the Pr George yokels as he can, and basically try to steal the nomination, however his plan could backfire.

In any event we will just have to wait and see.

I agree with your comment Andyfreeze.

Good Luck Cameron, hope this all works out for you.
Whoa...

Is this the councillor that has not even finished a single term??? Seems like he might be overstretching a bit considering he has not yet proven himself in the local arena first.

Lots to do yet Cameron. Am not convinced you are the right guy considering you have not been able to convince your fellow councillors to restrain themselves from pursuing all sorts of new spending programs here at home. In fact, I think you have fallen into the trap of "group-think" far too many times already.

Sorry. Do not think you are the person for the job as this time.
Cameron needs more expierience, he has a job @ his toy store, and city council. He was a yes man during the DBIA. I wont be voteing for him.
