Prince George Fire investigators are working with the RCMP to determine the cause of a fire at the Coast Inn of the North this evening that prompted the evacuation of 158 hotel guests. (see previous story, as well)
Deputy Fire Chief Dale Kronebusch says 16 fire fighters from three halls were called to the Coast Inn on Brunswick Street just before nine this evening.
Kronebusch says when the Incident Commander arrived on-scene, he noticed an orange glow inside a corner unit on the 4th floor. Fire fighters were able to contain the flames to the single suite.
Smoke from the blaze filled the hallway and filtered to the floors above. The Deputy Chief says it was two hours before the smoke could be cleared out to allow guests to return to their rooms.
Kronebusch says, to his knowledge, the guests were evacuated safely and without injury.
He says the room where the fire broke out had registered guests for the evening.
A damage estimate is not yet known.
