Prince George, B.C. – When Council meets this evening,  Councillors will be asked to boost the fees for business licenses by 10% . Staff say this would be the first increase in the business license fee since 2004.

Also on the agenda for this evening’s regular council meeting, the PGX will provide an update on this year’s fair, and make its first installment to pay off the loan the City had granted.

Council will be asked to approve sending a letter to the Provincial Government “encouraging a broader consideration of factors that play a role in poverty alleviation in the analysis of provincial minimum wage increases.” This falls short of a request to call for a boost in the minimum wage to $10.00.

Theatre NorthWest’s request to have it’s funding extended for one more year will be up for discussion.  TNW is looking for $118 thousand to offset dollars lost through cuts in gaming grants and other funding sources.

City Council will be approached to file a proposal to host the Federation of Canadian Municipalities National Board of Directors meeting in 2013.

There will be a presentation calling on the City to apply to extend and expand its Community Forest license to include crown lands. This would provide the opportunity to reduce the risk of interface forest fires.

The road repair projects for this year will be reviewed. The projects saw 28.108 lane kilometres resurfaced, a further 1.646 lane kilometres underwent enhanced paving.

And Council will be asked to approve the revitalization tax exemption for Commonwealth Health for it’s improvements to the former Chances Gaming Centre.

Well who'd a thought that would happen in the highest taxed and user fees city in the province.
Businesses and homeowners will be delighted to hear that taxes and fees will keep going up with every passing day...what a great idea to keep and attract new businesses and investments here and to ensure that people can still somehow afford living in their own homes!

Aren't the councilors' rubber stamps getting a bit worn out at City Hall by now?
And Council will be asked to approve the revitalization tax exemption for Commonwealth Health for it’s improvements to the former Chances Gaming Center.

When will these people stop down loading from the tax payer. What a plan increasing business licences to feed the dinosaurs. When will they increase the taxes for industry. The that have recently been lowered.. I guess Guys like Jimmy need the money. Seems the elites get all the cake.
Cheers
HST on these business taxes? I can hardly wait these upcoming five years for the economy to improve because of our HST.
Just so happens there is a "small business seminar" now in town. How timely. Maybe hizzoner can pop in and announce this new tax increase to the dupes contemplating starting a small business here in this 'burg. PG is anti-business. Prove me wrong, please!
