Terrace, B.C. – The Chair of the Coast Mountains School Board is trying to reassure parents after the loss of two senior school district officials in less than a week.
Barry Pankhurst says School District 82 is in very capable hands, despite the sudden departure of both the superintendent and the departure of the secretary treasurer.
Pankhurst says secretary treasurer Linda Brown “severed” her relationship with the district, calling it a personnel matter. Brown had been on leave from her job before she ended her employment. Alana Cameron, described as second in command, will handle Brown’s duties while the district looks for a permanent replacement. Pankhurst says he wishes Brown all the best.
Superintendent Rob Greenwood handed in his resignation last week after 22 years with the district in both the classroom and the board office. Greenwood gave notice Thursday and his last day was Friday. Director of Instruction Brent Speidel has been appointed acting superintendent while the district looks to fill the role on a more permanent basis. While no details about why he retired were provided, Pankhurst admits District 82 has faced declining enrolment and shrinking government funding during Greenwood’s time as superintendent.
Chair Pankhurst says the district is currently reviewing a number of candidates to take over as superintendent on a more permanent basis. He says once that person is named, the board will then look at hiring a new secretary treasurer.
Pankhurst says the board has full confidence in the abilities of the interim superintendent and secretary treasurer.

Ironically, two of the most important positions of the School District. I would suspect that the board had to make tough decisions and retirement seemed like a better choice for the individuals rather than to carry out the wishes of the board.
That's just my opinion.
