Former Mayor Colin Kinsley stands beside new campaign  sign
Prince George, B.C. - He’s in, and it is a very serious bid.   Former Prince George Mayor Colin Kinsley officially kicked off his bid to be the Conservative candidate for the Prince George-Peace River riding today with a special reception at the Ramada.
With posters, a slogan, signs, internet access for membership signings, Kinsley has made it clear he is in this race to win. “ I feel like I’ve just strapped into an 800 horsepower race car and we’re headed to the track. It is going to be a race, there are a lot of really good candidates who have taken the time to put their names forward to represent this great region in Canada’s Capital.”
At 64, he is the most senior of the candidates in the running in not only in age, but in level of political experience. A  former Mayor, a former Councillor,   Chair of the Regional District, Member of the B.C. Transit Board, member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities  “I have the passion, I have the commitment, I have the connections, I believe strongly in partnerships we do nothing alone, it’ll be a partnership between all of the communities in this riding, the Regional Districts, the Province and the Federal Government to see what we need to have done  and that will be primarily those kind of things that diversify our economy.”
He says he is clear on the issues facing the region, including drought issues for Peace Region farmers, access to markets for canola and grain, the natural gas and oil industry, mining and forestry. He says he feels politically comfortable with the “centre-centre right” positioning of the party, and while he believes in social programs, he is also a strong supporter of economic development, “That is what I think I bring to the table more than anything, to that end I have travelled extensively as you know, promoting our wood fibre, in particular our pellets.”
Kinsley says his age is not a factor and his 20 months away from politics have  given him time  to get in shape  “ When I was on Council, I went to too many banquets, ate too much junk food, spent too much time on planes. In the last two years I have spent a lot of time in the gym and I’ve never been in better shape, so if you think this old guy is done… not yet.”
As those in attendance applauded his announcement, Kinsley smiled, turned to his long time election team and said “This is wonderful, I guess we’re back.”

We don't need another OLD pig at the trough. We need younger men with a desire to change things rather than old people who do it only for the money and the status.
don`t worry the desire to hang onto this riding by the Tories will make them find a candidate that actually might appeal to voters...sorry Colin but it ain`t you
Seems appropriate as he was a Gordon Campbell suck up throughout his political career. Despite the Conservative party verses the B.C. Liberals, they both follow the provenly faulty neo-conservative ideology. Anyone who sided with Campbell during the now famously corupt sale of B.C. Rail should think twice about looking for support here.
Yeah a new vision would be nice.
hahahahahhahaha!
I agree, in my Opinion, we need someone young, they have all of the ideas and imgination, they want the change, as do I.
Colin's knowledge of this region and its workings would be a huge plus for PG in Ottowa. But lets be honest, we will never really effect much change reguardless who goes. Jay Hill will be hard to replace. His many years of service are to be applauded.

He sold this region out with the sale of BC Rail that almost killed some of the towns up North like Mackenzie and Chetwynd... and now he wants to represent us in Ottawa? The man is a neocon that works for the likes of Gordon Campbell and not the people of Prince George Peace River. How much is he paid by Enbridge as a spokesmen and will he step down if nominated... I doubt it.
No comment. Why? Because we have laws. That's why.
Experience counts. Kinsley has that, in spades. Stolz may have so called youthful vigour and fresh ideas, maybe, but he is largely unproven, and it is a huge leap to make, from a less than one term small town councillor to national representation for a huge and diverse riding. And, aren't you supposed to live in the riding? (College Heights is not in Prince George North)Not saying that Stolz can't do it, but in my book, it's depth of experience that counts. I do not know anything about the other three candidates yet.
metalman.
Campbell was mayor of Vancouver and the voters booted his ass out of that seat, look where he is now. The more you screw up the better job you get when it comes to government.

Unless other candidates have been given the membership list, this person has it and it would probably give an individual an advantage in planning a nomination campaign.
Jay Hill, Dick Harris, Colin Kinsley,
Cameron Stolz. Does it really matter?
Kinsley made a comment on the radio last
night that reenforced my opinion of our so called democracy. To paraphrase, "The
power people in the Peace came to me &
asked me to accept the nomination, Colin
you're our man." We as voters do not get to choose who "represents" us. We get to choose a person who will best further the
agenda of the ruling tyrant...er...PM.
That person is chosen by a few select that
in turn are only padding their own business/ personal/political agendas.
Representation of the people is a long
gone idealism. Does anyone really believe
Kinsley etal really has anyones best interest in mind other than his own? Look
no further than the rampant cronyism that
took place in his years at City Hall.
The only difference is that his "friends"
will be a lot better connected.
I sincerally doubt if anyone from the Peace River Region is looking to Colin Kinsley to represent them. This riding runs North of the Nechako River and the only people in Prince George that are in the riding are North Nechako and the Hart Highway.

Common sense tells you that the riding should be represented by people in the Peace River District, say Ft St John, Dawson Creek, Chetwyn etc; What kind of representation can these people expect from a burnt out older Prince George politician.

Hopefully Kinsely and Stoltz will get their butts kicked.
Wow, is there a single politician out there that people on this site actually like. Last civic election we elected the opposite of Colin and now everyone is pissed at him. Tough spot to be in, you can never win.
When one hires someone to be the CEO of a firm, or a senior manager on the management team, or a key technical specialist, etc. one interviews them and one checks their previous work experience bu talking to their supervisor or clients to see whether they could do the job they are being hired to do.

Then, the person who is selected is given a probationary period of a month up to 6 months and even a year to demonstrate whether he/she is capable of doing the job.

There is no such process in selecting someone to lead the country, the province, or the city and those who are there to help with that work. The process is to try to figure from listening to them whether they speak with forked tongue or not. Whether they are listeners rather than talkers.

The system is a crap shoot.

We know what we will get with the two PG candidates. Most of us have not the faintest clue who we will get from the Peace crowd.

Sometimes it is best to go with someone relatively new. The gal from Tumbler Ridge might just fit that bill. New, from a stuggling community, no baggage, young, female, capable of drawing attention for many reasons. From her web page, very refreshing, especially for a Conservative!!!! She seems to be true to to the traditional conservative movement.
