Prince George, B.C. -  The official opening of the 'Chieftain Auto Parts Lab' at the College of New Caledonia's Prince George campus marks what college officials hope is the first of many corporate sponsorships.

The local auto parts company donated $25-thousand dollars to CNC for the creation of an automotive computer lab.  The lab has 16 computers, a printer, a large LCD screen TV and a scanner, called 'Elmo' that allows instructors to display auto parts on-screen where they can be seen clearly.

CNC Associate Director of Communications, Randall Heidt, says the CNC lab will be named after Chieftain Auto Parts until March 31st, 2015.  Heidt says, "At basically, $5-thousand dollars per year it's an excellent value for Chieftain and, of course, a huge benefit to the students."

"It's really quite gratifying to see students using computers in a classroom that had nothing but desks last year," he says.  "We obviously needed the computers, but just didn't have them in the budget, which is why we are so grateful to Chieftain."

For his part, Chieftain owner/manager, Trevor Heinze says, "These students are our future and it means a great deal to Chieftain to give them the best technology available to help them learn and grow into professionals in the auto industry."

Heidt is hopeful more companies will contact him with their sponsorship ideas in the future.  "We are interested in hearing all kinds of ideas."
