Prince George, B.C.- Canfor Pulp is reporting record sales for the third quarter, with sales of $247.million and a net income of $54.5 million.

Higher prices for the  pulp and paper products offset lower shipments and higher unit manufacturing costs.

The scheduled maintenance downtime  at the Northwood Pulp Mill, originally estimated to result in 10,000 tonnes of reduced production was extended for additional inspections and repairs to the recovery boilers. The additional work extended the outage into the fourth quarter of 2010 for a total of 24,000 tonnes of reduced production with approximately 18,000 tonnes in the third quarter and 6,000 tonnes in the fourth quarter.

Softwood pulp markets remained balanced through the quarter. Bleached softwood inventories increased because of reduced demand from China and the typical seasonal slowdown through the summer months.   The increase in supply resulted in a drop in North American prices of $30 dollars  in September, down from the July peak price of $ 1,020.

Some North American bleached softwood capacity was restarted in late September which will result in a modest increase in supply but that increase in supply should be offset in the short term by scheduled seasonal maintenance .

Good news!!
Excellent news. A very good year for Pulp and Paper production in our fair town.
We are proud people in this gritty old mill town, they call Prince George.

Way to go guys, hard, focussed work makes it profitable. Profitable means long term employment.
The pulp mills enable everything else in this town, so that is fantastic news for PG and the viability of many other companies.
This is great news. Now let's follow up with some optimism by changing our attitudes with a more positive outlook.

I challenge all of our media to spend more time searching out some good news story's that will provide our citizens with some hope and encouragement that the world hasn't ended and will continue on.
Koodos to Ben, Elaine and staff. Opinion 250 gets the news quicker onto internet than the Citizen.

That is a thumbs up news.
Good news is nice. Share price is looking solid and dividends are paying nicely!
Great news! Now they can start repaying the $160 million of taxpayers money they used to renovate their boilers! (But they won't, since Harper gave it to them).
Why shouldnt it be solid. They got millions of tax dollars
Cheers
Get your facts straight people, Canfor has only begun to spend the money granted.
