Prince George, B.C.- Members of the Canada Games Council are in Prince George today to talk with the 2015 Winter Games Bid Committee.
“They will be giving the Committee a post- bid de- briefing” says Mayor Dan Rogers. That debriefing will include details of the bid’s strong points, and the issues that need some work.
The Mayor says he also expects the session will provide some direction on how to make the transition from a Bid Committee to a Host Society which will be responsible for organizing the games and raising as much as $7 million dollars for the event.
The Mayor says there are several multi party agreements which will have to be signed, agreements which clear the way for the flow of funding from the Federal and Provincial Governments. Those agreements will be five part deals involving the City, the Host Society, Canada Games Council, the Provincial Government and the Federal Government.
The Host Society will also be charged with hiring a CEO. Mayor Rogers says while there have been some very preliminary “feelers” put out there for possible candidates, that hiring will be up to the Host Society and its Board.
The meeting today won’t be too intense as Prince George is what is referred to as a “future, future” host of the Games as Halifax will host the Games in February, followed by another set of games in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Right now, the focus is on Halifax.
