Spirit of B.C. Week!

This is supposed to be Spirit of B.C. Week in our province,  a time to "join together as one voice to promote and celebrate the values that are important to British Columbians" at least that what the  news release from the Premier's office  says.

Here in Prince George, all the "spirit", or a goodly portion of it, seems to be on hold until next weekend when the Winter Opportunities Summit will get underway.

If you visit the Spirit of B.C. web site (www.spiritofbc.com) you will find the calendar of events planned throughout the province.  A quick check of that calendar shows Prince George is having  a free family swim day on the 4th, then the rest of the week slips by virtually unnoticed by Prince George until the Winter Opportunities Summit opens on  the 9th and carries on through the 11th.
The Summit is not free.

Spirit of BC week, eh?

I thought maybe in keeping with Alberta's $400 cheque to each resident of that province, Spirit of BC week was going to be giving each of us a bottle of Okanagan Ice Wine. That would have helped get everyone into the spirit of the thing.

;-)

Winter Opportunities Summit is no more than a chance to rip off the attendees. It is just one big infomercial as far as I can tell and should be free.

I did some checking too to see what other communities have put on the list. Kamloops - 10 events; Kelowna - 1; Vernon - 1; Nanaimo - 3; Chilliwack - 2 .....

At least some of them have "flag raising" and winter carnival events.

I attended the Liberal fundraiser .... if his speech at that event was not a spirit of BC speech, I do not know what is ...... I thought for sure we were having an election this week that I had not heard about!
