goodmorning all, have a great day, yippi!! it's friday!!!!!!!!
A cut in income taxes will not help those of our citizens whose incomed are at the bottom of the scale. It will aid those with higher incomes.
The people earning the 2001 minimum wage will be hit with HST on purchases while getting no breaks.
Raise British Columbia's minimum wage so we can be proud of our concern for the least advantages amongst us...again.
I think that a focus on retraining prgrams and decreased college tuition is a better solution. Create opprotunities for people to improve their situation, dont improve it for them. I believe that society owes everyone a reasonable opportunity for success.

I will pay more tax to fund college tuition but I dont want to pay more for fast food so someone can make a career of it.

Teach a man to fish...

do we think raising the minimum wage to 10.00 per hr will make a difference?
Can you live off 10.00 per hr?
Heard from Kal tire the other day they're booking in to late November for winter tires, man, they're gonna be tired out!
Anyone heard if we're gonna have a cold winter or something like we had last year?

Hey, if you're driving your vehicle, can yuh try and concentrate on your skills, instead of thinking of work or everything else that invades the gray matter?
Fella blew a stop sign yesterday, just about got creamed, not thinking I guess.
We'd have fewer driver error collisions if folks would just pay attention, then they could afford to change their minds...........
Hunting season is just about over and I've noticed fewer beer cans on the side of the logging roads than ever before, I like that. Have a safe weekend everyone!
Time to go get the candy for the trick-or-treaters! Fun evening coming up!

I agree with Born in BC - I would rather retrain and decrease tuition. However at this time, it's the loss of ordinary (mostly guy) jobs that is hurting people. Ordinary labourer jobs are getting fewer and fewer. A 'ticket' of some sort is required for alot of jobs now and that leaves a good many people out in the cold. If a 45 year old has to go to school for 2 years to get grade 12 first, then retrain for another 1 -4 years.......how can they afford to do that and support a family. That is the area that I see as difficult at this time. It the times - the loss of ordinary, good paying jobs.
There is nothing Campbell can do to restore his popularity. He has been far to arrogant for to long. It is to late to try and make amends for his method of HST introduction. Who can really believe his and Hanson's story about not considering the HST until after the election. The guy has just lost all credibility. First he introduces the HST because there is a hugh deficit and then he lays out an income tax cut because revenues are up. It certainly appears his grasp of the BC economy is severely lacking. His next step will be to raise user fees to recoup the money lost through the BC income tax cut.
It is surprising more of the crew on the good ship liberal haven't abandoned the sinking vessel. Unfortunately they are going to go down with the captain.
Correct me if I am wrong (I am sure you all will, lol) but shouldn't grade fours be coming out of grade four at that level already? If not, why? Campbell has been accused of hating children so I suspect this sudden concern for them is just a ruse for election time.

Happy Friday All! Have a wonderful and safe weekend. :}
re;Slim2229

I've heard about three times from meteorologists either on TV. or the radio that this year our part of the world is gonna get more snow and cold than the yearly average.

So B.C. is in line for a harsher winter this year. Back east I've heard they are supposed to get a mild winter.
Put new tires on the 4x4 last year and just put snowtires on the wife's car the other day.
Interesting how much tires have shot up in price with all the doom and gloom about what a nasty winter it will be!
Ain't free enterprise just great?
Oh...look at that..I just paid HST again...suprise,suprise!
I wonder how many news articles will be posted about the Skakun trial?
Now there's a question I am often asked...where is the best place to buy tires?
"Now there's a question I am often asked...where is the best place to buy tires?"

Costco.
I know this Lois Boone's kid and she really likes this lady who had me on a uttering threats charge for five years. Now her mother wants me to support her to the federal N.D.P and yet my brother is a studying political scientist which is a working for a local M.L.A and his wife Spanish professor with both as resident Don's at Mount Allison University. After all with no violence in my former relationship. With an older women that still smokes and is over weight and drives all over the place and doesn't support fitness. No not a chance am I going to support this group of people. Bash me for years and then expect my vote. Yet I am the one with the chemical imbalance you people discriminated against me even went so far as to say I didn't surivie S.I.D.S but if fact. I could go on and on.
I think when kids enter the school system it is the teacher who should be teaching the child {with help at home ofcoarse}how to read and write. Why else do we have schools? I guess the teachers are thinking what they will do with all the Pro D days they get paid for.
Actually pansy,no, you can't live off 10.00 bucks an hour...all you can do is stay alive, assuming you have help.
But it is a damn sight better than 8.00 bucks an hour, I suppose.
Means the difference between one can of beans or two,I think?
So where do people who make between 8 and 10 bucks an hour live, besides with their parents,a friend, or their grandmothers?
I feel sorry for anyone trying to survive out there on minimum wage.
And the reality is, lot of seniors are in the same boat dor different reasons.
Then there is Campbell's 6 buck and hour training wage...don't even get me started on that one!
I hear ya guys this is huge. Trying to shut this down. Hey we got rights folks.
i live on the disability monthly allowance of 906.00 they took away 16 dollares this monthe because i moved and my rent is cheaper so i recieve 890 a month.i have a older truck to get around soo insurance, food, rent, phone, parking, and basic cable leave 0.and a loss thats the dignity the govt does when you get ill !! they take 16 dollars away because god forbid you need it !i did not ask for disability as i lost my job they took away my class 1 soo thankyou govt !! anyway lets have a safe halloween for the kiddies!!!!
I see on global news this morning Scambell spent $250,000 of our (taxpayer)dollars to tell us (in my opinion) a bunch of lies.
Yeah thats not nice. I should bid everyone a great day. Today is better then being dead
Here we go again.
Raise the minimum wage, lower tuition so folks can get edumacated (socialism?), yet run down to Costco (American company) and Walmart (another American company with primarily made in china product), export raw logs while demanding high Canadian wages.

Gee, I wonder why we are having economic troubles. Macro economics demands that an economic region export more than it imports or it will go broke. Here we are.

See my previous post about the ships hauling goods for Walmart from China and returning to China empty.

How about some viable suggestions?
A Good place to buy tires is Automagic on 15th, they seem to have a reasonably priced selection, and the guys there are pretty knowledgable.

I agree with Munnica why aren't kids getting grade 4 education in grade 4? and campbell is using this a selling point?? I would be embarrassed if I was him, to have to admit to the provInce that all these school cuts are actually hurting our childrens education, but if you vote for me I'll look into it?? and this guy is in charge of your kids education?? Either all our kids will be a grade behind when they graduate or we start sending our kids to other countries for an education you paid for in BC but because of our idiot premier they didn't get the required credits.

and as we have seen in the past tax cuts don't last very long, nor do they seem to hit my wallet, and if I do fluke out and hit the minority of british columbians who may save some money with this 15% tax cut, I will save 600. a year while I will pay thousands and thousands for the rest of my life on HST. No thanks campbell I got an education when I was young, and I can add,
the HST will cost bc millions in the years to come, and only the big business and the govt. that the big business bought will benefit from it.

it seems democracy is something our kids will only read about in an encyclopedia, where all the other extinct things are, BC is God's country, unfortunately Gordo thinks he's God! give me a break!
I like dealing with Harry at TC Tires, he is pretty good at what he does. I found him to be honest, fair and also gets the job done in a reasonable length of time. If he says two hours for a turn around count on it. I drive a truck with that air pressure sensy thing, I was in and out in 15 minutes, the last time I drove through.

I have dealt with other shops, count on your vehicle being tied up all day long for a 15 minute job.
The minimum job wages were designed for the entry workers who does not have a much going for them. Eight bucks an hour, if your planning to work for that wages and raise a family.... good luck, You and your spouse will need to each work 60 hrs a week and then you might be able to feed, and house a family of four. Realistically, it is a "minumum" wage job to encourage one to improve them selves.

If you fall into the trap of being 35 plus, family, yada yada. and your working "min jobs", well, find ways to improve your lot in life.

Fortunate for myself, I saw my Dad struggle, and I chose to use my head and improve prior to getting older. If your parents did not take the time to instill this on to you, shame on them. If you failed to listen to your parents, shame on you.

Education, grade five kids without grade four knowledge. Hmmmmm, When I went to school, I would have been failed. Labling and embarassing the kid, is not that bad. With proper parenting it can be a bit of an intervention.

So we let the dumb kids advance on with out qualifications, so we do not do physcological damage.... On behalf of all the small business employers.... thanks for failing to do the job, education system.

In most cases, 90% of the kids should be able to do the grade school course loads. it is a function of the kid being motivated... this is not the job of the teacher.... Parents this is your job, to keep your kids motivated and focussed. I tell my employees, I will teach you anything and everything I know. But I can not teach you ambition.

The other 10%, needs additional help, no doubt, Some could be caused by disabilities, while others could be home life situations adding unnecessary pressure on the kids.

-Costco, bar none the best place to buy tires. Next Automagic, You can always wrangle a good deal out of Don. Their parts are #1 in town.
- What the hell is Campbell thinking?? Five years from now our grade fours will be at grade four levels. And he's actually bragging? What a retard. Campbell, what the hell are you thinking now, giving us tax breaks so we might like you? What a retard. Does the lowest acceptance rating in Canada ever not mean anything? You cannot buy our love, we will never like you, ever, get over it and move along.
-Give the min wage people a raise for God's sake, it won't change the world but it might help someone get out of bed for some of these jobs.
-Can Starbucks change their menu to English? What the hell is going on in there? I love their good strong coffee and stuff, but what the hell is Verdi and frappacinos? it's like I'm on the outside of an inside joke.
-Happy Halloween
Sorry all, for my rant. Not having much paitence for whinny people today.
If anyone is looking for something different to do, take the kids to the haunted house in the old Saan store in the Hart mall. It is much bigger than last year, what a hoot! The kids loved it (as well as almost wet themselves). Not much you can do for only $5.00 these days, this was definitely a bargain.
Happy Halloween
You should see what people coming from poorer countries can do with $8.00 per hour. It is amazing! I think they should be teaching us. Or we should be learning their way of living. We have grown up spoiled and have lost our sense of frugality and what is important. I'm not saying $10.00 per hour would not be better but its just numbers. Everytime there is an increase in the minimum wage, prices go up. It is a never ending climb for inflation. Wages go up, prices go up and in the end, each dollar buys less and less. Our dollar back in the fifties bought 'way more than it does today. Wages started going up with the pulpmills influence and union wages. Prices went up the same way. That was back when women kept the home and children. Now they have to work and hire daycares for their children. Now their children think that's normal! Funny, it wasn't normal for hundreds of years. Its time to visit some poorer countries or people from them, learn to get by with less and be happy and be very thankful for what we do have. There is a little short film which won an international competition that really brings it into perspective. Its called Chicken a la Carte. Very touching.
Have a wonderful, safe weekend everyone!
Andyfreeze: it depends on what brand of tires you're looking for. I got my best price for Toyos at Tire Capital, Kal Tire for Nokian and Costco for Michelins. I bought mine and had them mounted about a month ago, so just had to swap them over the other day myself. (No waiting and wondering if the snow is going to come before the tire shop gets to your number.) Everyone knew back in September that winter was coming. I buy the best I can because if I can't go, I'm out of work. Also if I crash because of my tires I'm out again.
Skeezix: I agree with you. A couple of years ago I needed change at the Vancouver airport. I went to the Starbucks there for a cup of tea. I couldn't understand a thing they were saying to me. Fortunately another customer helped me out by suggesting their 'morning tea'. I just needed change for the payphone.

Read a letter to the editor in my morning Citizen. It was directed to Hizzoner Danno. Most impressive. Impressive enough for me to cut it out, put it in an envelope and give it to the mayors secretary next week. Maybe if every one who agreed with this letter should send Danno a copy. But then again, knowing politicians, he won't smarten up. Because he won't care.
If we get rid of gordo, the thought of carole scares me so bad i might have vote green or maybe somebody will come out of the wood work and replace gordo
Trevor Linden for Premier.
Mr. Quick on the Hart does tires now. Not so many people know about their tire service, so there are practically no line ups. I got mine done there Wednesday. I drove straight in and was on my way in 15 minutes.

$16/wheel to mount and balance. They also had the best price in town for winter rims.

If we get rid of gordo, the thought of carole scares me so bad i might have vote green or maybe somebody will come out of the wood work and replace gordo
Born in BC wrote: "Teach a man to fish..."

That works, if there are fish.

If there are too many people fishing and the pool is depleted, the person that has been taught to fish gets totally frustrated.

So, the question is, whose job is it to make sure there are fish? In the case of fish, it is mother nature, God, or even the fish. Whose job is it in case of jobs?

Since the unemployment rate goes up and down, it is obviously not because people are tired of working and quit. It is because they get laid off.

So, it is a supply of jobs problem......

That is why the BCLiberals have introduced the HST!!! to create more jobs because companies are now goingto be more competitive in the workld market and people will be investing in Canada and BC like they never have befor .....

Says I with tongue firmly planted in cheek, :-)

"i might have vote green "

And this will do what to the election results? Certainly not get the greens in.
Good tire info people...thanks!

If there are no fish, go to another lake. Don't come to my campfire and steal my food.
Any reduction in taxes is nice to have, but before welcoming it with open arms it might be advisable to ask where it comes from. A few months ago we were told by the Campbellite government that the deficit would be a half billion dollars less than expected, so where should we spend the extra money. They completely ignored the fact that there was no extra money since they had a massive deficit and chose to keep it at such a high level instead of lower it and borrow less.

Now we know what the extra half billion dollars of borrowed money is being spent on - a reduction in income taxes. Since tax money has to be used to pay the principal and the interest on the money borrowed to give us a reduction in taxes, where is the advantage to the taxpayer? Sooner or later we have to pay it back, don't we? How much is this attempt to bribe us with our own money going to cost us when interest payments are added on to the half billion, and for what, so Campbell can tell us what a wonderful money manager he is?

The fact is that he has given us two of the largest deficits BC has ever seen. Some money manager!
Anyone who comes out of the woodwork to replace Gordo will have been hiding in the woodwork because they didn't have the guts to stand up and be counted. Does BC really need someone with no guts as Premier?
Read an interesting article that if Califonia makes the use of marijuana legal November 2 it could affect B.C.'s economy especially the east kootneys. The price would drop to the point where it would not be worth the risk growing and shipping it across the line. Billions out of our economy.

Lets see Canada and the U.S. have all this so called heightened security on the borders but billions of dollars of drugs seem to flow back and forth at will. Makes one wonder.
Rayban wrote: "If there are no fish, go to another lake. Don't come to my campfire and steal my food."

Interesting that you should bring up taht notion. That means if I was here first, that it is my lake and you stole the fish from it. Move on!!! :-)

All late comers need to move on to a new lake. Now someone not only has to make sure that there are enough fish, but also enough lakes.
BTW, the east coast has had the HST for more than a decade. People are still moving from there to central and western Canada in search of jobs.

Put that into the theory that HST produces jobs. People are gullible and political parties thrive on gullible people.
I seen the Campbell talk on TV.
He hasn't changed my opinion.
I still don't like the man...
The one thing that really made me scratch my head is ..
if a child isn't up to grade levels, why are they passing them on to the next grade?
I heard somethingthat the school systems figures they will traumatize the kid if they fail them...
what a crock if this is true.
What is next, you can't let an emplyeee go if they cant do the work because you might traumatize them?
Sorry Campbell, you loose!
The reason they insist on passing a student through to the next grade has nothing to do with the student.
It has everything to do with budgeting.
If they pass them all through, they can more easily project budget needs for the next year.
Of they have a variable failure rate, they have to make budget adjustment for the variability in class size.

About schools and budgets.
Seeing as they have closed what, 25% of the schools, does that mean they have reduced staffing AND school board trustees?

Probably not. They probably still have just as many trustees. I would think canning a couple of trustees would free up a few hundred thousand dollars that could be applied to educating our children.

But then, that would be the right and good decision. Not the style of our self interested, self serving school board members.
So Cambell has admitted ten years of his dictatorship failed the school system.
Loki you are right!
The now days 50-60-70 years old
generations (and older ones also),
who did all the hard work for the
last 50-40-30 years to build this
country, did not study in fancy
schools, the teachers handled way
more students/class, without all
the extra helpers, so called "teachers aids" nowdays. There were not even
close to as much "administrative
personels" and other "linked" positions
in the scool system as now days.
The students in those days could read, write and achive to build a prosperous
country.
Now, why do we need all those leaches in
any of our systems? Just to say, without them the system could not work ?
Would free a lot of money up for the real educaton of the next generations.
Don't use the budget of the real
teaching for the so called job creations.
That is all, what it is, the current
government(s) (federal, provincial, no exemption) creating jobs, which
are absolutely not productive
and that is where the deficit beguns.

I have a report that contains personal information on all of you...I'm going to release it for the public good!
I support Brian Skukun , what he maybe did was wrong, but lots of other people in City managment have made mistakes and haven't been taken to court and treated like a criminal.
