Armed Stand-Off Ends Peacefully

Prince George, B.C. - An armed stand-off near a rural property along Highway 16-West between Terrace and Kitwanga has ended with the male suspect being taken into custody with "minimal incident".
The incident began last night, when members of Terrace RCMP and the North District Emergency Response Team set up a perimeter around the residence, closed the highway and evacuated a few nearby properties as a precaution.
Senior Media Relations Officer, Corporal Dan Moskaluk, says the situation changed quickly this afternoon. He says ERT members at the scene report that the male suspect and his father left the rural residence using a boat to cross a nearby river. Corporal Moskaluk says the father dropped the son off at the opposite side of the river, downstream, and then returned to the property where he was arrested without incident.
Then, he says, "An RMCP Police Dog and ERT members deployed near the drop site and conducted a search through the rugged terrain and dense bush, locating and arresting the 30-year-old man."
Both the 30-year-old and his 54-year-old father are in custody now. Corporal Moskaluk say investigators will work within the preliminary 24-hour detention period, in which a proposed charge submission will be made to crown counsel.
The RCMP spokesperson adds, "Our officers are to be commended in regards to their carrying out their duties in this incident from start to finish. It is at great risk to themselves that the search and extraction of the suspect in bush conditions was successfully concluded without injury to any."
