Equipment changes that will further reduce the hydro bill are pointed out
Prince George-Sinclar Forest products has been named the recipient of the 2010 BC Hydro Power Smart excellence award.
The award is BC Hydro’s highest level of customer recognition.
Greg Stewart, Sinclar President, says the award recognizes the dedication of the team of Sinclar employees and to our staff who recognized the challenge.
Through various initiatives the company reduced its electricity consumption by 25 per cent over 18 months.
Sinclar Energy Manager Eldred Radhko says a simple thing like air leaks, even an air leak of one quarter of an inch, can cost the company $ 83,820.00 a year in hydro bills.
In addition, heating systems, and general employee awareness all combined to make the 25% cut. “We entered into a partnership with the Power Smart team at BC Hydro knowing that energy consumption constituted a significant financial risk,” said Radhko. “The energy champions at each of our mills really took ownership of this program, they drove the projects. We were so successful in reaching our initial two-year energy reduction target of 15 per cent that we’ve decided to double the two-year target and we’re already well on our way to reaching it.”
