Prince George, B.C.- The Missing Women Commission Inquiry will be coming to Prince George, but not to hear any evidence.

Commissioner, Wally Oppal will come to Prince George to hold an “open public forum”. The forums are more about the Commission sharing information with the public about what the inquiry is all about, and its terms of reference. The date has not yet been released however, it is expected to be held in early January.

There will also be a public forum held in Vancouver, that one is set for December 6th at 487 Alexander Street from 10 am to 2 in the afternoon.

The actual inquiry would then start  after the Prince George  event.

A special website has been established for this inquiry but at the moment, the information available there is limited.

Oppal, was appointed to head up the inquiry that is to examine how police investigated the missing women  cases from Vancouver’s downtown east side during a five year period that ended in February of 2002 when Robert Pickton was arrested.

While the inquiry will focus on those investigations,   there is a very distinct possibility the investigation of the Highway of Tears cases could e impacted by the recommendations . The terms of reference for the Commission of Inquiry call for it to :
  • recommend changes considered necessary respecting the initiation and conduct of investigations in British Columbia of missing women and suspected multiple homicides; and
  • recommend changes considered necessary respecting homicide investigations in British Columbia by more than one investigating organization, including the co-ordination of those investigations.
Commissioner Oppal’s report is to be submitted by Dec. 31, 2011.

If they "hold a forum" every month every where it won't take long until all the money runs out. How much do these forums cost? Who organizes them? How much do they get paid? Food catering? Out of towners get expenses paid? Too many questions.
