Prince George, B.C.- The B.C.Liberal Party is rescheduling its Biennial Party Convention that was scheduled for Penticton on November 19th and 20th until such time as a Leadership Convention can be called.

"Premier Gordon Campbell has been a tireless leader of our party for the past 17 years and he will certainly be missed," said BC Liberal Party President Mickey Patryluk . "In these circumstances our constitution has provisions to move forward, and in keeping with those, we will be rescheduling our Party Convention once the date for the Leadership Vote is determined by the party executive."

The BC Liberal Party Constitution states that in the event of a Leadership Convention, the Party President in consultation with the party Executive, must reschedule the biennial convention and general meeting of the Party. The BC Liberal Party Executive will be meeting in the near future to set a date for the Leadership Vote and the new date for the Biennial Convention. In accordance with the BC Liberal Party Constitution, the Leadership Vote must be scheduled within six months of that meeting.

"We have a strong grassroots Party that will be moving forward to ensure we have a smooth transition in a timely manner," said Patryluk. "The defining issue for our executive is that we conduct this process in a thoughtful, organized, reasonable, intelligent way."

Over the past few months, the BC Liberal Party held local delegate selection meetings allowing all party members to both select attendees to the Convention, as well as cast a Leadership Endorsement Ballot on the leadership of Premier Gordon Campbell.

The Endorsement Ballots were counted on October 8th with an Ernst & Young Auditor, the Party Secretary, the Party Comptroller, a local riding president and member of the Party Provincial Council, and other staff in attendance. The Party says Premier Gordon Campbell received an endorsement of 84% of party members.

Premier Gordon Campbell will remain leader of the BC Liberal Party until a successor has been chosen by party members.

84% endorsement from the party members? that sure doesn't sound like what we've been hearing the last few days. and 84% doesn't explain the internal revolt, or a reason to pull the plug. something doesn't add up!
84% is a very good reason why the BC liberals don't deserve to be reelected at all... no one willing to stand up for the people of BC... 84% that put politics ahead of good policy for the people of BC. 84% at a time of HST concerns, Basi Virk buyouts for corruption cover ups, and shadow government tactics by Gordon Campbell ignoring the very people that made the 84% vote.

Pure opportunist that don't deserve any conscious persons vote IMO.
Do you think the NDP membership is any different with respect to their leader? I do not know whether they hold similar polls or not.

If they do, perhaps someone who knows can let us know when the most recent poll was taken and what the results were.

A poll of party members should not be looked at in the same fashion as a poll of the general population. You have to remember that these are all people that are supposed to be pulling in the same direction. When you have lost 16% of those who should be pulling in the same direction, there is something wrong. By the time you get to 50-50 you are going nowhere fast.
BTW, the following statement is not very accurate:

"The Party says Premier Gordon Campbell received an endorsement of 84% of party members (in attendance at delegate selection meetings)."

This one is also not quite accurate:
"Over the past few months, the BC Liberal Party held local delegate selection meetings allowing all party members (in attendance) to both select attendees to the Convention, as well as cast a Leadership Endorsement Ballot on the leadership of Premier Gordon Campbell."

I have added words in brackets which make the statements accurate.

I suspect that only a small fraction of members attend these meetings throughout the province even at the best of times. It is an indicator of how well the more active members feel.

Perhaps the party ought to consider taking a poll of all party members in the future.
Most polls are selective and geared towards a desired result.
Obviously,the Liberals understand that too!
I have never in my entire life seen or heard of such a dunderhead as mister Campbel. He actually still believes that he did a good job (for) B.C.--- I don't know whether he is serious or he's just pulling my leg. If he's serious then I'd just have to take the position that in governing B.C. the primier would start the day by picking any silly thing to do to the people of B.C. You could use the sale of B.C. rail as an example. When I heard that Campbel did that--I wanted to march up to the legislature and kick him in brains because I believe that is where I think they are!!
He should have been a man about leaving by saying: "I'll just to go to Hawaii and get real drunk".
