The time has come for a new party to rise up in BC - we're always better off when there's an alternative to the 2 dominant parties; makes for accountability, and choice. Right now we would not be voting for someone, but against others - and it's really a choice between the lesser of two evils!
Seriously? Where is everyone? this is Friday, right?
I predict Obama is done for... likely won't make it to the end of his term.

Obama survived protected by a democratic house that wouldn't investigate him and shared his agenda... things will be different now... I predict the republicans will show him no mercy starting with the repeal of Obama's health care legislation. When push comes to shove they will start the investigations into his BP insider connections and then move on to his Chicago political mafia connections... it will be his downfall and once the investigations start in congress Obama will loose any allies he once had.
How many of you have received the ad flyer for Cash Canada in this weeks Citizen. It says brings in your stuff ( c.d.'s , electronics , flat screen t.v.'s etc.. and they will give you cash then in 30 days they will sell it. Does'nt this sound like you steal it we will buy it. This makes it much to easy for the b and e artist to get cash for yours and my possessions. These so called lenders should be closly watched.
We do have an alternative. The BC First party
Chris Dalaney was instrumental in the Fighthst exercise and this party WILL (underlined) repeal HST. That is a given. This HST is the issue and we can defeat it if we get the recalls going this month. At least one is starting on the coast hopefully more too snd systematically get rid of the rest of them too. Peter is absolutely right. The HST can be defeated if we keep the pressure on. He is also right in saying that whoever is left and defends this scam will be recalled as well. Other then that the only other way is a general strike and who knows maybe we can do that soon too. WHATEVER it takes the HST along with campbell and all his Bilderberg henchman gotta go. Have a good weekend everyone.
I agree on the third option... we need a third option initiative that supports independent candidates across the province in at least 40 riding's (thereby disrupting any majority dictatorships). An initiative that has candidates loyal to the private sector unions and small business enterprises. Let the corporate globalist apologists, and the public sector unions, have the existing political establishment... the province needs to move on with a real option for the working middle class... a third option.

Maybe an umbrella organization where you can only be a voting member if you are a member of a private sector union, or a sole proprietor or partner in a unincorporated partnership... thereby keeping out the pointy heads that make politics their career in the name of special interests considerations that are harmful to the greater good of the private free enterprise economy?

Guys like Blair Lekstrom and Bob Simpson could be the standard bearers from the bookends of perspectives united in working as independents for the common man that makes this province. It could be a catalyst to change the way the whole system works. ie cabinet ministers selected by Parliamentry votes of the whole house of MLA's, rather than appointed by an unelected premier... the cost of a coalition government... true accountability.

Wish I had time to write more on my ideas for this... I'm sure others have some of their own thoughts as well though... the key is in the organization of finance IMO.
I hope that the NDP will now go beyond campaigning on a policy of we-are-not-Campbell. We need some definite policies backed by promises to resign if they deviate.
How about a policy of "renegotiating" the HST with a goal of restoring the exemptions we enjoyed with the PST (i.e. restaurant meals, services, etc.)? No one would object to a merged PST and GST if the combination left prices the same.
Now is a time of opportunity. Let us hope that the Party grasps it.

Wow Ben, Just saw your article from Oct 29 regarding my court case. You seem to have some sort of insite to the Bribe case, how is that Ben? The RCMP recommended Charges and had a good case but local crown council did not want to charge the individual. If he would have been charged the house of cards would have collapsed and that would have been what this community needed to clean up the corruption! Many people wanted to see that happen and the few that did not, are corrupt themselves.
I went to the Deputy Attourney General and the AG's office with a complaint and request of the the local crowns decision to not charge the guy in my case in 2007 overturned. That went over like a lead balloon. I guess you should keep your mouth shut, put up with corruption and if you speak out or your toast.
Some people tolerate workplace harrasement and intimidation in the workplace and will do all they can to hide it but I won't like it or not espcially by a man packing a gun!

"The matter of the bribe was investigated, he should recall, it was a loosely made offer by someone who didn’t have the authority to handle out a dime of the Casino’s money. The Police investigated the matter and came up short, end of story"
Are you kidding me Ben!
Do you know who offered me the Money ? Did the RCMP or the City inform you of the details of the case so that you could say what you said regarding this?
Who is the athourity to speak of? If people think elected officials loyalty should be to the City and only the City and not to the taxpayers as well, democracy is in the toilet.

The gaming Center Audit Ben, come on! George Paul promised it in 2006. I was denied information as a councillor around the financing and building of the parkade amnd would not take no for an answer.

"Each one has an equal vote, if Councillor Skakun is unable to convince the Council to his thinking, then he must be prepared to accept the result"
What are you saying Ben? It is no secret that people have wanted me out of City hall for several years and I should be prepaired to be voted off the island. If you know who is behind that effort, please let us know. Don't think I don't know what the plans are for me at City Hall!
When I reported I was offered a bribe in 2005 then the knives came out and have not been put in the drawer since then. There was no problem for others to disclose confidentail information surrounding this RCMP criminal investgation and tip people off that the RCMP would be investgating them several years ago as long as the RCMP did not get their man.
You can write all you want about me or my lawyer Ben and I really hope when I take the stand you are there reporting all the facts! If you fugure going after me in your artcile on a number of issues is the way to go, fine but I really think Ben you should pony up and take a run at me next November for my council seat!
This one didn't make much of a blip on the news radar...

The new retractable roof being assembled on BC Place was originally pegged to cost the tax payer $365 million. That was the budget in Sept 2008.

It has since then ballooned to $563 million in two years, and is going to be almost 6 months late in construction. We also find out it cannot be retracted if it's raining or if it's windy. It can only be moved if they believe the weatherman to be correct.

Par for the course, the Liberals were crowing the roof was "on time and on budget", until they were forced to hand over the paperwork. It's the Convention Centre all over again. That project shot from a budget of $495 million to $883 million.

Between the two projects that's $586 million unaccounted for. Remember that the next time service are cut or schools are closed.
Waiting for Bens reply to Brians article!!!
Brian I for one appalude you, good too see some with CHANOAS as big as pumpkins!
from the first reading on your court case,I said scapegoat!
Oh! the corruption,in this craphole,ya really think so.....hehehe!f$%^em all in city hall.
Lets do what California could/would annd did not do LEGALIZE THE HERB!!
Marihuana Party is the only solution too our problems ,WAKE =UP and smell the Bud.
Brian, glad to see you responded... I remember reading Bens article and thinking something is wrong here... you should run for mayor next time and clean the place up... I'd vote for you.
For anyone that has read The Caine Mutiny, I think Brian Skakun is about to accuse Ben, the RCMP and Council of eating his strawberries. Time for your pill Brian!
Pylot Project if it was the NDP that made this boondoggle one would need earplugs to protect from all the screaming. The fiberal media was quite mute. Seems the inadequacy of the roof design was covered up for as long as possible. Hey its only taxpayers money.

Speaking of taxpayers money how come UNBC is spending 15 million for a trendy heating system when they already have one. Hey UNBC the C02 unproven hypothesis related to climatic effects is quickly falling part so get your hands out for global climate disruption research funds before that money tree drys up.
Way to go Brian. It docent take much imagination to see that the mandarin at City Hall have to keep council in line with their ego . Bates need to too go and if he dosent we are in for tough ride. He has the Mayor going around with his head you know where.

I guess the lesson here is don’t trust the media any media. They are after all only word smiths and have to make a living. Many of us are pulling for you Brian. Your the man.
Cheers
Seamutt u are always ranting about carbon not impacting climate change. provide some credible evidence please.
I chuckle of the irony of Skakun challenging Meisner on facts and grandstanding.
While I fully agree that Ben carefully "manipulates" the facts to create sensational stories where there may be none, Brian is also very guilty of the very same tactic in City Hall.
It's all very entertaining!
seamutt, provide some credible evidence in support of human produced carbon effect on climate.

This sheeple scam is about filling pockets.

If you believe government that is supported by arguments from big business sponsored "scientists", I have a bridge on some nice swamp land for you.
thank you brian for doing what i consider the right thing. informing the public and trying to make people accountable for their actions. people who are elected to public office should be totally accountable for their actions and nothing should be deemed private.
Climate doesn't kill people. Weather does. So I heard. Besides, the carbon tax Gordon Campbell makes me pay is keeping sea levels down and stopping ice from melting in the arctic so that poor polar bear really doesn't have to get off his little melting ice cube and wander down south and try and sell me a new car. Right? By the way, any statistics or anecdotal evidence from the Liberals on what the carbon tax is accomplishing or has accomplished? Any forthcoming announcement on that matter would be most appreciated.
On a side note. How many guys growing a mustache for Movember??
729
What is Mayer Dan Rogers next step in his fight against gangs, now that the summit is over. I think the people of PG deserve to hear his views and plans, unless they are top secret.
I saw a lady with a mustache once. But I didn't say anything. :)
Loki ... seamutt does not support the human produced carbon effect on climate change. You misread his post.
I too am happy to see you respond to friend Ben Misners remarks. It seems like just yesterday when you arrived at our door asking for support to council. You are one of the better councilors we have and I too wish you would go for mayor next time around. You readers out there I would like you to go to Brian Skacun's web site and put some cash into his defence fund. He is fighting for all of us and to ensure transparency and honesty in our municipal government. all the best Brian.
Thanks Brian...

You've always stood up for us a city hall when it was time to do the right thing. You've got guts to stand up for what you think is in the best interests of our city.

I don't live in PG anymore but if I did you would once again get my vote, as always.

It's funny but, to me this trial feels more like revenge from our previous top cop. No one is gonna tell me any different. I’m quite curious to know if he DEMANDED that Brian be charged, and pushed for it.

Doesn't it seem just a little suspicious that this case even made it to trial even though this particular type of trial is the first of its kind in Canada (as reported in the news).

Hmmmm… I wonder if the top cop had something to do with that before he left town with his tail between his legs. Seems plausible to me.

(KK)
my bad, I mis-aimed the comment.
Does anybody have any new news on the theft of the computer at CFIS? Just wondering. We haven't heard any more about it.

Summersoul: I kind of don't think a revised HST would move many people. It is still 2.25 times what we paid for GST. Remove some items and we are still paying that huge amount on everything else and the benefits still go to big business.
Hood show me yours first. You still have not shown where I was lying.
Just a question: How do we know that B Skakun is Brian Skakun himself? Can't anyone log on with any name?
Good point forthegoodofmankind

And how do we know that forthegoodofmankind is actually forthegoodofmankind.... can't anyone log on with any name?

We could do this all day. Did you read Brians post? You think someone else made that up?
It is "B Skakun" here and "Bskakun" on a previous post.

That takes two separate registrations on here. The IP guy should be able to tell whether they come from the same IP address.

I have heard from someone close to the matter that there really is not any basis to Mr. Skakuns claims of corruption, in this case. Either way, I still admire Mr. Skakun for having the kahunas to stray from the party line, and speak out for the citizens of PG. Good on ya, Brian, and I hope you intend to run for council or even mayor next election. You have a lot of support from the common man.
metalman.
Hood I see you did not read my links. Are you making money off the C02 scam? I guess the truth is hard to take. I do not know where you are getting your information but you really should broaden your horizons
Here is an interesting link, I am not lying,-http://nofrakkingconsensus.wordpress.com/2010/11/05/when-is-a-job-offer-not-a-job-offer-part-1/
Just wondering if anyone knows what the giant house rattling BOOMS in College Heights were? Shook all the windows and doors... thought someone drove into the house or a giant tree fell in the yard... Happened twice...
Brian:
I am absolutely shocked that after all the time you have spent in Council, you still don't understand the election process. If Ben Meisner ever took a run at Council, he wouldn't be after YOUR seat, he would be after A seat. I do suspect having his name on the ballot would be tantamount to opening up a major can of "whoop-ass". Would you get elected? Likely, but that's only because you're so paranoid you run around thinking everything is a conspiracy and you have convinced some that you will "expose all". From what I've read in the news, the Judge doesn't seem too interested in that "exposure".
Get over yourself Brian.... at this point, you are your own worst enemy.
vocer...The first thing to come to mind was most likely newlyweds. I guess.
There seems to be a lot of innuendoes and mud slinging on opinion 250, always with a "one man's opinion", but when that opinion is wrong, never an apology, no matter how harmful those comments have been. Ben says things as if they are truth. I support Brian Skakun as he is the only person who stood up to support his voters and challange city hall administration. I believe Brian is a person that knows the truth and will show that in court. His constiuants have given him full support . Some people have morals and some people don't. The media have a responsibility to only print the truth, and "one's man's opinion" is not, in most cases, the truth. The moral judjement will come when the trial is over. One mans opinion is irrelivant until then.
The simple fact is that the majority of the people believe Brian because he is the 'maverick' council member. No one else has ever had the balls to do what he is doing; in fact, even now, no one wants to side with him. Strangely, the voters do. That is because we do not take lightly the closed meetings. We believe that this small community should have no secrets from the electorate and when they hold closed meetings we are suspicious of favoritism and corruption. In addition, the enormous amounts money spent on 'pretty stuff' is absurd after raising garbage fees out of sight, just lately the move to lessen snow removal. There are too many negatives in city council for us NOT to believe Brian. I'm with you Skakun because I hate corruption in government and the RCMP.

For Hood
Is it my imagination or does it appear that all the Skakun supporters having trouble spelling and putting a sentence together. The intelligent sector of our community. Plead insanity Brian. Does anyone actually think that anyone other then Skakun could write the comedy act he writes ?
Yawn,roll another one zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Very cold overnight.
