Mini excavator blocks part of sidewalk in front of popular Prince George restaurant.

Prince George, B.C.- Staff from Prince George City Hall  were quick to react after Opinion 250 advised them of a complaint about the excavation on George Street.

Crews have been excavating a strip   between the curb and sidewalk to allow the installation of electrical service for the new light standards that will be installed.

At the end of the work day today, the operator of a small excavator left the machine staddling the work area, with a blade partially on the sidewalk in front of Ric’s Grill.

Concerned the low level street lighting and awkwardly placed machinery would lead to a customer trip, fall or other injury,   Opinion 250 was contacted to see if someone could do something to expedite  the removal of the machinery and the filling of the “strip”.

A call to City Hall, found Operations Manager Bill Gaal still at his desk. He jumped to the task and by the time Opinion 250 arrived on scene, Gaal and another City worker were already on their cell phones making sure the machinery would be moved and the hole filled so people would not be at risk of an accident.

Gaal says businesses along George Street were informed of the work that was being done to prepare for the installation of new street lighting, and   up until this afternoon, there had been no complaints.

The excavation work is to be completed within the next couple of weeks. The street lights have been ordered, but may not be delivered before the spring.

Too bad, they did not do this when they re did third avenue five years ago.
ooooooooooooops, thats Ric's not North 54
Our work is done here....
We have streets with pot holes that deep maybe we could get some fast action on fixing them with just a simple phone call ????
Pays to have friends in high places:)

Was at Ric's for dinner tonight at 4:30 and almost didn't go in as the place looked closed because of the excavator in front. Got the owners version of events first hand...who ya gonna call, lol.
I am still wondering if trees will be planted on George street.
This year? No.

Next year? No.

Call the BDIA if you can find a number. Call City Hall.
Great, now what about all these idiots who park part way on the sidewalk in College Heights, and the other ones who block the sidewalk because their driveway runs through it.
Well apparently the City didn't get their point across, because I work in the office where the excavator is "working" in front of. I am really getting frustrated and feeling sick to my stomach because the fumes from the escavator are drifting into our office. I wouldn't be so angry if they were actually working, but that is just not the case. The operator is sitting in the machine with it running; in fact he sat in the machine with it running for an hour and a half. The machine was not working it was just sitting there idling with the operator inside. I see absolutely no reason for the machine to be continuously running. Obviously the operator is waiting for someone to come or something to happen but does he not realize that those idling fumes are drifting into the businesses in the area. And perhaps the City did let other businesses know about the disruption, however, we did not receive any notice. Very frustratint indeed!
Considerate, why not go out politely explain to the operator that the exaust fumes are getting in to the building, and ask that he shut it off when its not working? Did you stop to think that he probably doesn't realize that it's happening and once asked, would comply happily? It's much easier to complain isn't it.
Well I don't see it as complaining, I see it as venting and thought this was a safe place to do it. However, yes we did take appropriate action. So sorry that this offended you.

"It's much easier to complain isn't it."

Huh???? ... and you would not call talking to the person complaining??? No matter how nicely it is done, it is still complaining in my view. To complain means to express dissatisfaction. it does not matter how much it is couched.

"I am sorry sir, but may I ask you to
please give some thought to possibly turning the engine off should you find yourself not using the machine for a while."

Relax Gus, your reaching.
I find it hard to believe that this is called news anyway.

Ha ha ..very dramatic!
Oh dudeinpg it sounds like you are the whiner now; might be time to "get a life" instead of waiting to pounce on everyone else who makes a comment!
No.. not at all considerate, just finding it quite amusing.
And I don't pounce on everyone. Just the comments that warrant pouncing:)
