Prince George, B.C.- We can expect a decision later today on when the B.C. Liberals will hold a leadership convention to replace Gordon Campbell.

The executive of the B.C. Liberal party is meeting  today to talk about possible dates, and any possible changes to the way the voting will be done.
According to the party’s constitution a vote to select a new party leader has to be held by May 1st of 2011.

Anyone wanting to run for the leadership has to meet a few requirements:
  • Must be up to date with their membership fees.
  • Must have been a member of the Liberal Party for at least 41 days before the voe,
  • Must  be endorsed by at least 100 party members,
  • Must write a letter of intent to the party president which includes that 100 member endorsement.
The executive could make some changes to the way in which the vote takes place. When Gordon Campbell was first chosen to lead the party, delegates could phone in their ballot. In today’s world of social media, there may be other venues that may be explored.

There is definitely a lot going on in BC politics this week.

You're right charles...there is a lot going on.
That's what scares me!
gus...my question would be, what do we know about this new system they are going to?
I really have to wonder who it favours the most?
What's the reason for the switch, assuming they do?
They want control. That is the only reason and they will legislate themselves more control if we elect them again. If we elect someone else, they will switch parties to maintain control. Stupid system this party stuff. Vote BC Refed.
See page 11/12 of the link to see how the COnservatives elect leaders. I was one of the ones cited as an example. I have not seen the details of how the BCLiberals will accomplish the election of a leader.

I think moving from a delegate system to a system which allows all party members to vote is more inclusive and less likely to be manipulated by anyone.

I think it is an improvement.
Had read on this gus...and while the system itself may be better,it will still be directed by the same people.
It seems it will also favour/benefit people like George Abbott, who appears to be the chosen Liberal king.
George Abbott or Kevin Falcon as Premier, now that's scary.
I can hear the sound of the knife sharpeners now.
The Campbell mafia will not reliquish power without a fight.
Hopefully, when a new party gets into the ivory towers in Victoria,we will find out what it is they are trying so hard to keep under wraps.
