Vancouver - The BC Government's Executive Council has decided to suspend a planned 15 per cent reduction in personal income tax rates for the first $72,000 of personal income.

"In order to ensure the Executive Council has maximum flexibility to set government's economic and fiscal agenda, Cabinet has decided tosuspend the planned tax reduction." said Premier Gordon Campbell. "The Cabinet has decided that during this period of transition it is important that decisions are not made that would unnecessarily limit Executive Council's ability to set priorities and implement their agenda for government."

The 15 per cent personal income tax rate reduction was subject to legislative approval and would have applied to earnings up to $72,293.

It was announced October 27 and would have taken effect Jan. 1, 2011.

Executive Council also decided, in consultation with the BC Government Caucus, that the 2011 Speech from the Throne would proceed on February 14, 2011 and would be limited to outlining the transition period between February 14th and when a new Premier is sworn in.

Executive Council also directed that the budget be tabled in accordance with statutory requirements on February 15, 2011. The budget will be astatus quo budget, with no new initiatives beyond what is statutorily required.

"These measures will ensure that government meets its legislative obligations and protects key government services, while providing the Executive Council with the opportunity to set their own social and economic agenda for the province," said Premier Campbell.

What a goof. This had better be in preparation for the rescinding of the HST.
And thus the 300,000 G's of taxpayers money he spent is wasted money.
Leave Leave Leave now campbell just leave.
I work for the public service and let me say this.. The focus is not on public service anymore..The focus has shifted to protecting govt intersts and corporate interests!

This govt is not serving the public of BC under liberal or NDP.

HA, HA, HA, HA, Typical and Predictable Campbell!
I said that they would do this...
anyone else notice that CAmpbell hasn't retired...
he has managed to get the press off his back while he continues to do his thing to the province with out anyone bothering him...
Beware!!!
More to come...
we will be well diddled before he is done...
retaliation is my thought.
So? We're used to the lies from Mr Campbell.
So one of two really scary things happened:

1) The 15% cut was a PURE political move that they thought would have helped with opinion polls, despite the harm it would have brought to ability of govt to fund essential services (and since it didn't work they rescinded it), OR

2) They didn't do their homework and figure out what the 15% would cost the government before they announced it

The former would be an act of pure desperation that would seem to put the needs of the Liberal party before the needs of the residents of BC and the latter would seem to suggest pure incompetence on the part of the govt. What a great situation, LOL!

Truth be told, the last thing the Province needs was another tax cut. To be perfectly honest, I think taxes probably need to be bumped up a little in order to effectively fund the services we want and/or need. Not the popular view I know . . .
Isn't it great that one can complain about the Liberals cutting tax and then complain again when it's rescinded.
Just another Liberal Lie what else is new
You must be a Liberal MLA rambleon, as you don't get it just like Campbell and his loyal idiots. The reason people are complaining is this government has no idea which way to turn, and with every turn exposes more incompetance.
What's more disturbing is that some "executive council" seems to have taken power and are passing major pieces of legislation without any mandate. Could this shadowy "council" be our new premier come February? It seems it already is.
This so called Government is in total chaos. They havent a bloody clue as to what they are doing. They have been passing legislation, and basically screwing up the Province for some time now. Not only should Campbell go, the whole Government should go. Their list of stupid mistakes staggers the mind. Who the hell is minding the store.

1.Tried to privatize the Coqualhalla, and then backed off.

2. Were against Gambling and when in Goverment expanded it all over the Province.

3. Stated they would not sell BC Rail and then sold it under the guise of a 999 year lease.

4. Spun the transmission lines from BC Hydro into a new entity BC Transmission Corp, and a few years later moved it back to BC Hydro. Cost according to NDP $100 Million. According to the Government $11 Million.

5. Stated over and over for years that they would not bring in the HST and then sold out to business and corporations and brought it in.

6. BC Rail court case with Basi and Virk went on for years, and then they basically accepted a guilty plea, and let them off the hook.

7. Changed the drinking and driving laws to have road side suspensions discontinued and a form of fines implemented which was nothing more than a blatant attempt to extort more money from BC Drivers. They are now faced with some serious finiancial losses from Restaurants, and Pubs, and they are now waffling, and will probably have to recind this legislation.

8. Brought in the 15% income tax reduction and then had it re-instated.

9, Advised that they would hold a referendum in Sept 2011 that with a simple majority would be binding on the Government, but would not implement any of Vander Zalms legislation.

10. Refused over a long period of time to admit that they made a serious mistake with the HST and continued to make statements about the tax, that at best were disengenous.

11. Campbell was in Alberta when the PST was rescinded, even though he claimed that getting rid of the PST and bringing in the HST was the biggest most progressive piece of legislation in BC History.

12. Campbell was in California butting when the successful referendum petition results were announced.

13. Made some Cabinet changes, and changed the responsibilities of many Ministries without any consultation with Ministers.

14. Held the 2010 Olympics which were to be revenue neutral, however has not given out any figures, as to what these games actually cost the Province.

15. Built the Sea to Sky highway, and as I understand it will be paying the contractor a user fee for every vehicle that uses the highway. This charge will be prorated over the whole Province and come out of general revenue, but will only benefit those people who travel to and from Whistler. (This one may just be rumour)

16. Has not made any effort to legalize his statement that the HST Referendum will be binding on the Government, even though he knows full well that he will be gone long before this referendum ever takes place.

There is probably more, however thats it for now.

This in effect is not even a Government, it is a bunch of Bozo's running in circles chasing thier tails. There is not one of them left that has a clue.

They are all graduates with high honors from the school of thought that BS baffles brains.

If they all resigned to-morrow it would not be soon enough.
Holy smokes...what's happening down there in Victoria??
I heard Bill Bennett said on CBC radio that Gordo spit in his face and that Gordo is not a very nice guy.......

I guess the liberals are finished, but we don't have another party to vote for, ah well......what the heck....in the end it will all turn out just fine......lol

Let's get rid of them all, NDP and Liberals.

I'm gonna vote for......mmm...what? Hell if I know.
What a Joke! His televised address a couple of weeks ago was to announce the tax cut and that went over like a lead balloon! Now, since the tax cut announcement did not help his approval ratings go back on his word again. Who ever takes over for Gordo needs to distance themselves from the pack or their job as new premier will not last long regardless of who will lead the NDP into the next election.

Brian Skakun
At this point its like trying to re organize the deck chairs on the Titanic.. lol.
"I'm gonna vote for......mmm...what? Hell if I know."

The Hell If I Know Party

I like the sound of that one. They won't have a platform and will do whatever feels right on any given day.
...and northman Captian Campbell and his band of sailors are still trying to tell use that icebergs (HST) are good for us?
lol yup..
Did you guys see Bill Bennett with media today. Brutal interview I mean wow.
The Liberal Party is putting an end to itself. All you MLA's who are standing by and are letting Campbell rip this province apart are all cowards. You all lose credibility in my books (what little you have).
Campbell and his Lieberal cronies at their best. Solidarity in cabinet regarding Bill Bennett. Hardly believable.

Hang in there Carol. A group of mongrel dogs could defeat the Lieberals in the next election. (no offense to dogs)

What is the matter with our local MLA's? Can they not see the writing on the wall. Cut your ties now before it is to late. The good ship Lieberal is sinking fast. Don't go down with the captain.
Recall is the only answer. Rescinding the simple majority HST referendum as announced by Campbell will be next on the list. The only way to rid ourselves of this liar is to defeat the gov't now.
Our local Liberal MLA's... well we know who they follow. Pat and Shirley should be getting the boot as well.
You can't argue with the fact that Pat and Shirley, although meaning well, put up with a bully for a boss for too long. Cowering in fear of party politics, they licked their lips in anticipation of any crumbs he might throw them. First past the post must be a hell of a great system.

Now, with any luck we'll throw them out. So who will replace them? Any good independents or NDP'ers in their ridings?
Uncoded: I tried to trick them back into loving me with a cheap trick without care for the actual ramifications, But it didn't work and now i have to ga anyways. Nice try slimey one.
Interesting story and comments. It is obvious that Campbell does not have the power he did a few months ago and "chaos" seems to e the order ofthe day. I actually thought that the Liberals had a chance to win another majority if Campbell left now and someone fresh like Taylor or Watt came into the picture. Since a handful o people have decided to recind Campbell's promise, the next leader is going to be a beaten, ragged doll. B.C. is huge trouble, leadership issues with the two main parties and NO leadership in the Green party or any knowledge how to run a government. I wonder why "apathy" is rampant in this Province. Maybe we should sell what's left of the Province to China because the U.S. has no money left and we can move to the Prairies. What's that saying, "every person for themselves".

I totally agree!!!

Add this to it:

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2010/11/17/bc-bill-bennett-fired.html?ref=rss

"The appointment follows the Cabinet decision to remove Bill Bennett from the Energy post because of his call for the Premier to step aside immediately."

A sane man saying a sane thing. Campbell will be lucky if he lasts till the end of this month.

From Bennet: "You can run on me, I'm a tough guy, I can take it," Bennet said. "But I've seen him do it to other people in our caucus. You have almost a battered-wife syndrome inside our cabinet."

You know, it is the classic case of keeping a lid on a boiling pot. Relieve it every now and then and you can keep the thing from exploding. Don't do that, and a small incident can cause a huge explosion. That is what we are seeing right now, a huge explosion resulting in an out of control situation.
Under Campbell, yelling and spitting has become the democratic norm in BC government. Bennett likened his treatment to "battered wife syndrome"! And guess what; Shirley Bond defended Campbell on her reaction to Bennett's comment.

This is much better than if the Liberals have lost in the last election.
A number 1 in way too late for the libtards, dead in the water!! yea!
What really kills me is to read all this complain'n and most of ya voted for this PICKERHEAD,ain't that rite!!convicted DRUNK in another country at that BS..AND gave him anothr jus like that Bush fella, say Heehaw!
Let go back in time for a moment,Harcourt what the hell did he do?NADA.old party crapola,GONE,Clark what did he do ??nothin compared to this PICKERHEAD.
Ask Bond-Bell 2 more pickerheads, jus how much the roof[bc place] is gonna cost US,oops on top of those olympics?I say stfu and do sumpthin!
Excellent post Palopu !
Yup the fiberals sure make the NDP look like rank amateurs. Where are all the fiberal supporters, hello, well some one must have voted for them.
Wow this is classic BC politics at its best. I guess now Carole James will def not step down as a two day old dead lake trout could win the next election and she will finally get her power trip she has been dreaming of. Were doomed. Thankfully my career field is in very high demand in Alberta so at least then i can work there and just "vacation" here. Pro business scammers and liars or incompetent pro union bleeding heart retards.
Meanwhile the Harper regime is dismantling Canada. Anyone notice?
This whole thing is really starting to remind me of a poker game where the object isnt really to play the cards..but to see how bad you can bluff and intimidate your opponents into giving in. Campbells bluff has been called as well they found a couple aces in his sleve..By the way this poker room is also on the Titanic...

Ice berg dead ahead...
Ah! GW Harper bow, bend and break for the U.S.Of A..his american citizen ship is waiting for him jus like that other BUM lyin Brian. He looks like the guy you do not leave yer kids with!short eyes!!
Announce a 15% tax cut via prime TV time, paid for by tax payers of BC = $300,000

Announce the deletion of said tax cut via press conference three weeks later = $0

Sending these lying scam artists packing = Priceless

What's really offensive is their innate Liberal ability to stare you right in the face and lie repeatedly, without ever breaking out in laughter. These are stone cold individuals.
...... whats the point ? they were voted in by the majority so we spoke, why cry now? just call an election and be done with it !you all would save alot of time .if not well... let the pigs at the trough finish the meal
2 elections ago the NDP were reduced to 2 elected members. 2 will look like a herd to the Liberals after the next election.
Yeah Harper is just as bad. Keeping troops in Afghan to train them how to protect themselves.... Isn't that what the USA did years ago?? Bring our boys and girls home and use them as law enforcement to fight out own battles with crime.
Funny isn't it, the hoops that need to be jumped through to get rid of something "THE PEOPLE" want gone, compared to the stroke of a pen that gets things done the "OVERSEERS" want gone.
It was interesting watching Shirley Bond defend Campbell on the news last night. It will be intriquing to hear what she has to say and who she blames when she loses the next election, if she runs. She should take a polygraph test along with many other cabinet ministers. It's hard to stand alone such as Bennett is when you are the only honest person in cabinet!!
I guess Shirley has not got spit in her face yet.
Shirley has taken the spit as a sign of acceptance and swooned with delight. I thank Bennett for talking out but, lets not forget he has only done this at the last possible moment. Where was he when the HST vote was taken or even way back in the first term (I think he was in office back then if not I appologize in advance) when the Liberals attacked the disabled with the witch hunt that cost millions to prove that there were no disabled that did not qualify for disability status (causing a subsequent jump in the suicde rate of the disabled through the heartless impossition of needless stress). It's great you are speaking out now but where have you been up to now?
I believe Shirley is related to Gordon somehow? Anyone?
The rescinding is OK with me. If I got a tax break, meaning I would have more money, why I would just waste it paying down my debts. Now that wouldn't create jobs, would it? So why let me keep more of my money? Silly geese.
