The beach of Guayabitos, in Nayarit Mexico

Its small, its off the beaten path, the hotels are older, but, the beach is beautiful the food great, the staff fantastic!

Welcome to Decameron Los Cocos, an all inclusive resort in Guayabitos, a small town about an hour and a half  drive north of Peurto Vallarta.  This is one of the resorts you can visit on the Prince George to Mexico direct flight.

Unlike Vallarta, this is a small town, its got a laid back feeling, and it is the holiday spot for residents of Tepic (the State Capital) and Guadalajara.   In fact, during our one week visit,  it would be safe to say  to the guest list was 49% Canadian, 49% Mexican, 2% American.

The resort is older. You won't find inernet in your room, but there is internet access available (for an hourly fee) if you would like to retrieve e-mail, or visit Opinion250 for the latest news from home.

The rooms are clean, each has an air conditioner, but you may  not have  a lot of hot water in the evening.

If you bought the all inclusive package,  you shouldn't be disappointed.   Domestic beer and wine, and local liquors, snacks, buffet dinners, one a la carte restaurant and for those who smoke, even the cigarettes are included.

There are five buildings to this complex, Cocos 4 is the newest and has the "superior" rooms, however,  Cocos 1,2 and 5 are "on the beach" and definitely where the action is!

The colourful paint of Cocos 2 provides an excellent contrast to fabulous outdoor lighting!

Plenty of pools, although no one ever seemed to be in them as the ocean front is inviting and warm.  Walk one way along the beach and  see the waves crash at the mouth of the bay, along the other,  and you will hit the town of La Panita, which has a marvelous market on Thursday's, in fact, the closer to Thursday, the more willing beach vendors are to barter!

The Town of Guayabitos offers plenty of internet cafes, some lovely bars and restaurants, although with the all inclusive nature of Los Cocos, you may not want to eat anywhere but at the hotel.   The hotel boasts a disco with a nightly show but there is also one disco downtown for those who must kick up their  heels.

The Hotel is in the process of upgrading, as  new sod had been laid while we were there, and workers were installing new air conditioners, new stucco on the exterior, and upgrading some rooms.

On the beach, you will find Tequila Willy's, a small restaurant/bar that offers Canadian Hockey games on T.V.  and Alberta Beef steaks on the bar-b-q!  This is also the place where you will find a smooth shot of almond tequila, no salt or lemon necessary!

Tips:
We booked this trip through Uniglobe.  Becky and Sue were both very helpful and made sure we got the best value for our travel dollars.

Bring along your own plastic refillable travel Glass.  It makes for easy refilling for coffees or any other drinks

Take the bus from the airport to the resort, no need to rent a car,  eveything is within a reasonable, and enjoyable walk

Do leave tips for your  maid service, the bar tender,  and the waiters in the  restaurant.  They give excellent service without it, but turn it up a notch with the extra incentive!

Don't  deal with the beach vendors on the first day. Their prices are too high.

Heading home, do all your duty free shopping in the airport (after security) there is no duty free offered on the flight home.

Brush up on your Spanish, it isn't necessary, but sure makes bartering a lot easier!
