Prince George, B.C. – The  Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement team was on the roads in Prince George this week.
The crews were doing close inspection of commercial vehicles to ensure braking systems and winter tires were in tip top shape.
Crews also handed out a flyer from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure offering some winter driving tips:
1.      Maintain a safe following distance
2.      Drop your speed to match road conditions
3.      Watch for black ice
4.      Accelerate brake slowly
5.      Avoid sudden moves
6.      Know how to handle a skid
7.      See and be seen
8.      Be extremely cautious when approaching highway maintenance vehicles.

These tips apply to EVERYONE!!!!
We could definitely use them or the RCMP to check private vehicles as well. Makes me wonder what kind of tires some people are using in these slippery conditions!
I wonder if they noticed the crack in the windshield of the photographer?
Cracked windshields in this part of the country are the norm. My once immaculate windshield was smashed three different times on a trip to Williams Lake and back so it's going to saty like that until spring.
They were checking other vehicles as well.
Before highways were privatized, we actually had SAND on the roads instead of course gravel. Heck, they used to pre-salt the roads when a snowstorm was reported on the way. Highway maintenance have standards for granule size which are completely ignored year after year, through both arms of our political duopoly.

As with all levels of government, it's about the appearance of doing the right thing, not actually doing it.
