Prince George, B.C. – This afternoon, Lois Boone will be officially named the NDP’s candidate in the federal riding of Prince George- Peace River.

Boone is no stranger to politics having been in the Provincial political circle in the past, and is currently a Trustee on the Board of Education for School District 57.

Boone is the only person who has stepped forward for the nomination as a New Democrat Party candidate in the Prince George-Peace River riding.

She will be making a speech at 1:00 this afternoon at the Coast inn of the North. The event is open to the public.

You can expect her speech to focus on the HST and how the Federal Conservatives should be held accountable for B.C. signing on to that tax, and she will press for a by-election to be held sooner rather than later given that the former M.P  for the riding, Jay Hill,  has been out of politics for over a month now.

No party wants to hit the campaign trail in the dead of winter, and there are rumblings a federal election could be called next spring.  Expect the Conservative candidate nomination vote to happen in mid to late February.

Wow...easy to see there is a lot of excitement about this!
OK Lois just WHY should the Feds be held accountable for BC choosing to opt in to the HST...and please never mind the rhetorical BS.

See if its possible that you can stick to the pure facts that you base your assertion on.

Please Lois please tell us just why???
Yawn. Who cares? Watching grass grow is even more exciting.
Well not that I like Boone..she is just another politician... with that being said.

The federal gov gave BC 1.6 billion dollars to bring in the HST.. and dont you love that.. Our Fed gov gives BC more of our tax dollars so they can charge more taxes. What a scam..

The feds do need lots of money just to cover the rediculous pensions these "people" get as soon as they quit politics.. and its guarenteed.. what a bunch of crooks..
I guess they could not find an NDP'er from the other side of the mountains...for that matter they could only find one on this side! That should tell you something about her chances.
'Boone's Big Day' sounds like a direct to DVD movie that no one will ever see.
So P Val.....

I knew you didnt know that under the mid 90's Federal Liberal legislation, the Feds are legally bound to provide a "transition fee" to any province that wants to opt into an HST arrangement. Having paid the other provinces that have opted in once the legislation was in force, the Feds cannot refuse any province to opt in, nor can they refuse to pay that transition fee to any other province who want to opt in.

You must know (or should be aware), that under the Constitution, the Federal government cannot treat one province different that another. And this is why the 1.6 billion transition fee had to be paid. To not pay would have certainly intiated a Constitutional challenge which any first year lawyer representing the province would have won in a cakewalk.

Check all this out P Val and see for yourself.

Strike one on you and Lois
