Do We Really Need The Air Care Fairy

By Ben Meisner

Councils are supposed to make decisions that are for the benefit of all the taxpayers, they after all are the people who councils call upon to pay the bills by way of taxes.

Monday we were told that PG air is looking for $70,000 dollars to, among other things,  carry on the work of the anti idling program.  So, $30,000 for the Air Care Fairy, and the balance will be used to exchange old wood stoves for new ones and some educaion programs.

I don’t know how you make it known to City Hall, that we don’t want an Air Care Fairy.

We are paying little to no attention to the anti idling program , as a matter of fact PG air seems to have dropped that program off the desk as well.

We want good snow removal, clean streets, and roads without pot holes. Now does that sound like we are being too greedy in our demands?

70 G’s would go a long way to cleaning the snow off a bunch of streets in the city and that is one program that will benefit most of the city taxpayers.

Is it any wonder P.G. is topping the list of Cities that  are spending too much  compared to growth  in population and  inflation?

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

Tilting at windmills is a typical City Council specialty...with taxpayer $$...while streets remain 3rd world.
I'd love to see the so-called "air care fairy" but only if he/she had the authority to start handing out fines to those morons who insist upon idling their vehicles.
Why don't we have an "air care" programme here as they do in the Lower Mainland? Isn't vehicle pollution important here too?

And then we could bring in mandatory vehicle inspections to get the unsafe and polluting vehicles repaired or off our roads. I shudder at the condition of some vehicles I see limping around Prince George.
We don't need air care here we do need lower taxes.
The air care program in the lower mainland is a joke; it has no teeth. There is a minimal consequence for failing the test.

So just how much does idling add to our air shed issues? I think it is just a smoke screen to deflex from the harder to correct issues.
air care is a joke. If you really want to reduce idling etc., just get rid of all of the Timmy drive thrus. I`m sorry to have to say that but I know people that will go half way across town to go through the drive through even. I am sure there are more people than you think who are guilty of this including myself.
People should have thought a little harder before electing a guy like Dan Rogers mayor. Is any of this feel good bs really a surprise?
So, I heard a story the other day from one of the folks that deal with this wood stove issue. Seems the new stoves don't remove the fine particulate matter from the air, are the same as the old stoves, and basically are a fairy tale to calm some people down. Anyone heard anything different? Or set me straight on the issue?
Even Gordon Campbell would be an improvement over Dan Rodgers and we know how popular Campbell is.
The Canfor Pulp Mills are some of the worst violators of anti idling movement. I see pickups, loaders, cats and all sort of equipment just sitting there idling away for hours on end. Now in the north sometimes it is not feasible to sit in a vehicle with no heat but the pickups especially I have seen sitting idling away while the crew is in the lunch room or doing some other task that does not involve the vehicle yet they sit there burning fuel, idling away waiting for someone to return which could be 1/2 hour to and hour or more. This takes place all year round whether it is cold out or not.

Totally agree!!!!!

It only affects those who walk by or are otherwise in the vicinity, such as in the next car in a line-up unless your windows are closed and you are on recirc air. And, of course, the person hanging out the take-out window.
Get rid of the air fairy!!!! Get rid of anti idling program.
Grow-ops from 100Mile House to P.G.These have been basically enabled by our justice system in that all they get is a slap on the wrist. These people should have signs posted at the entrances stating "SPONSERED BY THE B.C. JUSTISE SYSTEM"
thanks who ever elected rogers! now have seen the biggest tax increase ever, now with bc hydro increase expect another 20 percent tax increase for the next three years that will cover all the citys electrical bill or some of it at least!!! we need to stop this mess for pg!1
citys hiring like crazy, every other juristication is cutting back, why does pg keep hiring all these employees? and giving themselves big raises? and freezing minimun wage? why?
