This is the day UNBC President Charles Jago will be recognized for a lifetime achievement in education.
Today is the day he will be invested as a Member of the Order of Canada and receive a medal like the one pictured at left.  The ceremony is taking place in Ottawa.

“I am very humbled by this honour,” says Dr. Jago, “and recognize that my achievement has much to do with the talented and dedicated people I have worked with over my career, and especially for the support and encouragement of my wife, Mary.”

During his ten-year tenure at UNBC, Dr. Jago has overseen significant growth and development of the University, including campus expansion, research infrastructure, new degree programs, and the creation of the Northern Medical Program. He has worked extensively on northern economic development and helped to foster major educational initiatives with First Nations groups throughout northern BC.

The Order of Canada was established in 1967 to recognize outstanding achievement and service in various fields of human endeavour. It is Canada’s highest honour for lifetime achievement. The only other Prince George resident to ever be named as a Member of the Order of Canada is conservationist Tommy Tompkins, who received the award in 1974. Native leader Mary John of Vanderhoof was also named to the Order in 1996.

I agree that we need some big doers in this town. Is there any chance that we could get some that would spend private money instead of tax dollars. Its pretty easy to be a big spender if you are being bank rolled by Four levels of Government. We need some bigtime private investment.
