Another week has come to an end.

The NDP antics continue,  more people dive into the Liberal Leadership race, the  City in  hot water  accused of over spending, and  the  senseless murder of a 15 year old girl.   There should be no shortage of material  to  spark discussion.

The rules remain  simple:

Keep it clean

Keep it Legal

No Bullying of other posters.

Plus hydro going up 10% each year for the next three years!
Now we know what American diplomats candidly think of Canada and Canadians. We are too soft and moral, even under our megalomaniac prime minister. We are too reluctant to engage in overseas military adventures, too squeamish about killing foreigners. We think that human beings, even when randomly accused of being “illegal combatants”, retain some human rights. We believe we are bound by the Geneva Conventions when our soldiers take captives, even if they are bestowed with the label, “detainees”. Shame on us. We are collectively gutless.

We do not take the 2001 Saudi-initiated, unsolicited urban renewal projects in New York and Washington seriously enough. We don’t necessarily believe that the term, “Ground Zero” should be appropriated by New York from the true “Ground Zeros” in Hiroshima and Nagasaki where hundreds of times the number of innocents perished.

We take offence when treated like criminals at the American border; the one that used to be called the “world’s longest undefended border”. That’s now a bad joke as it ever-more closely resembles the 17th parallel between the two Koreas. We object to being electronically stripped naked at airports by bored “Homeland Security” drones.

We watch in horror as know-nothing, superstitious “Tea Party” loudmouths decry democratic advances painfully achieved since the Magna Carta. This tea pot is cracked and reveals little but crackpots.

We watch as our domestic followers of America’s decline endeavour to bring their own version of Fox “News” into our living rooms, spreading their poisonous doctrines.

If I had my way that American PFC who released all those diplomatic documents to Wikipedia deserves a medal, one of more import than the bushels of medals dumped on American military personnel.

(Disclosure statement: At one time, eons ago, I was a PFC in the American army, cleared for secret. I had access to no information of interest to the Soviets other than that the missile system on which I worked was a useless failure, designed solely to siphon money from the American taxpayer to the coffers of the Raytheon Corporation. But they knew that.

And I “earned” two of those useless medals. Whoopee.)

On another political note!

CLVFD 2010 AGM. Saturday Dec. 4 @ 10am. Cluculz Lk Recreation Hall, Lund Rd. Your Community Safety Is Now In Your Hands! The primary agenda item will be the future existence of the Fire Department. If you want a Fire Dept. show your support. Guest speaker Jerry Petersen, RDBN.

Well it looks like the Directors of the Cluculz Lake Volunteer Fire department have learned a hard lesson in keeping public information secret. The referendum vote of Nov. 6th was voted down so NOW they are willing to share their plans with the area residents. At the public meeting, two weeks prior to the vote, they stated that this has been in the works for 3-4 years. Hmmm, a well kept secret!
A public meeting should have taken place long before the wheels were put in motion to have the referendum. The public meeting held by the Regional District on October 25th was too little too late. The Directors of the Fire Dept sat with their backs to the public and were not even there to address questions.
And why did this referendum vote take place in November when the population of the area is at its lowest and why was each property owner not notified in advance of the requirements to cast a vote?
For the fire department to move ahead in a progressive manner, it needs new blood. A membership drive needs to be activated and hopefully residents with leadership qualities will join. Anyone who has time and the initiative to volunteer should be accepted, not only those who can commit to the minimum training hours. Yes in a perfect world the Fire Dept would reach certification, but even uncertified works but just no insurance breaks. Many residents would be happy to just have fire fighters, reliable trucks and strategically placed fire halls.

I disagree with the CLVFD Deputy Chiefs remark on Meisner Nov. 8th, that: At issue for many of the voters was the matter of cost.
I believe the issue isconcern that we may be paying for a dead horse. Once this tax is put in place it will be there forever. With the past history of the CLVFD; many are nervous about throwing money at something that may be doomed to fold. Show us that there are sufficient reliable volunteers to have a viable fire dept and you will get our support. The demographics of Cluculz Lake are such that this will be very challenging! I do hope there is a good turnout for tomorrows AGM.
From "Mayor Says Spending Report Too Narrow in Scope"
"while snow clearing is another 10%. These are services the Mayor says just can’t be cut back or eliminated."

Then why the stupid "snow clearing survey?" Could have "cut back" on that...
Why does anyone here give a hot damn what American diplomats think of Canada?

Anymore than anyone there would be the slightest bit concerned over what Canadian diplomats think of America?

Time we got on with minding our own business, and stop worrying about what the rest of the world thinks of us, if they think about us at all.

BTW:- Corporations like Raytheon are primarily 'distributing agents' for necessary new money entering the American economy.

We, having still less of an industrially developed economy than the USA's is, have our own versions of America's Raytheons, though generally less dependent on spending for national defense and more on securing exports (to countries who can never pay us.)

Bombardier is one prime example. Every Firm that has benefitted from 'stimulus spending' in this recent downturn are others.

The 'money' DOESN'T initially come from 'taxpayers' ~ it's not "old money", in other words ~ but entirely new credit created by the banking system. Without which, as things are now arranged financially, previously created bank credit (loans) could not be fully repaid by other Firms, and individuals, that have borrowed.

The system increasingly transforms the floating debt of the private sector into the fixed debt of the public one. Which is the point at which the long-beleaguered 'taxpayer' comes in.

Not to "pay off" the public (National) debt, there'd be no money in the country if that happened, but rather to perpetually "pay (interest)on" it. Tribute to the banking system for allowing us to live.

And when, increasingly, we can't? Well, we're witness to that right now. Traditionally, it has led to attempts to find ways to accentuate the problem rather than diminish it, and the culmination of that has always been war.

And, no, the solution to this is not to abolish interest.
Well..... if you didn't know it before, you should know it now..... your City is completely out of financial control.

BC Hydro up 10% for each of the next three years ??? Horsepoop !!!

Use the extra money that you have been collecting from your customers over the past twenty years to pay for new infrastructure. BCH does not need any extra pennies to "fund" stuff. The current infrastructure has been paid for many times over already !! Not to mention that the "fuel" (water) is given to them FREE !!!!

Alberta mines and burns coal to generate most of their electicity... hence much higher costs.

Ahhh.. its Christmas shopping time, when I get to go into stores and be treated like an illegal alien by some ipod wearing gum chewing teenager. Look honey its simple, you smile, say hello and ring up my purchases, if that is too difficult for you then you are in the wrong business. I know its busy, I worked in retail myself at your age, but if you don't like people interupting your gum chewing, then go shovel snow off peoples driveways, its not my fault I'm shopping in the store you work at, its my priviledge..besides the city needs help with snow removal!! So go enrich their lives with your " who cares what people think attitude" and get me someone pleasant to talk to, I don't think I am asking too much. When I hear its natural to be treated like dirt in retail stores at Christmas because its busy, I say Bull!! they are getting paid to be there, if they are not getting paid enough to smile, then go work somewhere else. I the consumer should not have to take someone else's bad manners when I am spending "my" money in their store.
To those of you who are great everyday in retail thank you, I am not picking on all retail staff some of you are angels, just not all of you...Happy friday everyone.
I say we cut this province in half, where to draw the line? then it will be a rude wake up for the LML.they will all be moving up here as it will be cheaper to live.
Living up to it's rep. BC-bring cash!
I see gas prices went up 2 cents a liter yesterday. We must be getting close to some kind of holiday.
Lets just cut the country in half. If we stop sending money to Quebec we will feel rich again. At least for a while.
Was down in Vancouver the other day and noticed that the economy down there seems to be ticking along just fine. Still plenty busy, lots of people out shopping, new cars everywhere, construction occurring, etc.

A couple years back, many people in "250", were predicting that the "604" would be going through tough times once the woes in the "heartland" of the Province worked their way through the system. What happened? Perhaps the economy of the "604" is a little more significant to the Province that some think? More so, perhaps people in the "250" were a little flawed in regards to how they thought our economy impacted the Province as a whole? Perhaps we should start to recognize that every area, even the evil "604", has a significant role to play in our Provincial economy?

I think these will be interesting questions to ponder given the political climate in the Province and the changes that are going to occur over the next year or so.
Stop sending money to Quebec? Geez and here I thought that a taxpayer in Montreal was helping to fund the Canada Winter Games and the Northern Sports Centre. I didn't realize that wire transfers only went one way, LOL.
We do need the 604 people. We work, they buy. If there is no buyers, there are no workers.
I agree Born in BC we should stop sending blackmail money to Quebec and just let the cry babies go.

Speaking of BC Hydro....
http://www.thecanadian.org/k2/item/409-save-bc-hydro

This is a long listen but you must listen a couple times to completely understand what our gov't is doing to our BC Hydro.

http://www.thecanadian.org/k2/item/402-erik-anderson-4
sardonic mellow out, and quit trying to rewrite history.
According to an MSN article today, Canada raised almost $19.5 million for prostate cancer research during Movember - more than any other country. Congrats Team.
Hydro is a puppet of the fiberals or whichever gov. is in power. Whatever money Hydro makes is siphoned of by the gov. The fiberals know our rates are about the third lowest in N, America. The others are Man. and Que, publicly owned by the way. The fibs know this so can direct Hydro to pump up its rates and still say we have some of the lowest rates in N.A. and the B.C. sheep will follow along. These pumped up rates are a hidden tax on B.C. sheep.

These rates are also needed to cover the huge cost of contracts to the Independent power producers and the most ridiculas costly and inefficent source of heavily taxpayer subsidized power, wind farms. Wind farms always make me think of the wind coming out of fiberals, opps I digress.

I believe contracts to IPP's, who are or directly tied to the fiberals by the way is 30 billion but can be wrong on that. It is up there some where. Now get this since the water does not always flow to some IPP's and the wind only blows about 30% of the time over a year for a wind farm who gets to backup these socalled private sources of power paid for by the taxpayer, the taxpayer again of course. You see a backup source of power will be needed and that is where site c comes in and a cost I believe of 5 billion a lot lot less than the cost of IPP's.

So you see the taxpayers pay for the IPP's and also get to pay for site c.

Oh the sheep are anyone who voted for the fiberals and especially the second time, though I have to admit I see no altermative. Did you all hear the zipper.
BC hydro is a puppet to the Fiberals, Ironically it is the only cash cow that the NDP will have.
Unrelated to the important issues of the day... has anyone seen the paint on the new Mosque at 5th and Foothills? Wow
its..ummmm...interesting
Seamutt.... Zipper ?

That's Velcro silly !!

I see that Mayor Dan is not happy with the CFIB report on our city. It appears he will accept only compliments to his reign.

There are a lot of people that is not happy with your performance Dan. " Focus, Focus".

Find ways to reduce our debt load, not find ways to increase it.

We the tax payers want.
We the tax payers want.

- clean drinkable water.
- sewer system in good working order
- good drivable roads, the odd potholes are OK, but maintain it.
- Policing system
- School system that works
- Snow removal in a timely manner. It does not have to be right away, but it should be cleaned up before the next dump.
- Reasonably clean city parks.
- official city plan, stop making ammendments for every special interest groups.
- Library, subsidized
- A swimming Pool, subsidized
- Civic Center, self sustaining
- Sports Facilities, self sustaining

More or less in that order.

Does anyone have the statistics on how many pencil pusher there were in 1975 and how many outside workers there were then.
And todays numbers?

What I have a problem with is how the executive members of the Cluculz Lake Fire Dept feel it necessary to keep this organization a complete secret to non members. There appears to be a gag order and if anyone tells anyone about what the plans are they get a strip torn off them. The executive member have to come to the realization that it is not their dept but all of the population of Cluculz Lake.

At the last meeting someone asked the Fire Chief if there was a fire how many members could attend. The answer was "none"!

right on Monkey, lets see if it will change.
Is Dan Rogers even conscious?
The police were very actively pulling over vehicles last night. Unfortunately some of the drivers needed rides home. I presume the same thing will happen tonight so be forewarned. Its very good that most people are thinking about the consequences of drinking and driving now and choosing alternatives to it. Maybe we can have a fatality free December and New Year. Sure hope so. Safe driving everyone.
Anyone who hasn't already done so,should Google Corky Evans letter dated Dec 3rd.
It's a damn good read!
Corky Evans for Premier!
Huh? Dan is only conscious when there is something in it for him or when he can take credit for something someone else did or when he's travelling! How often does he travel compared to our last mayor who travelled alot - I wonder. We never see or hear anything about the trips.
A bully at school, a bully at work, a bully in politics. Those with vested interest in gaining from GC's fall from political grace should be watched with eagle eyes and thrown out of office ASAP. We don't need any more cowards or people with questionable ethics running things.

There are enough of those around. May I suggest we put the person who will stand up and say no more i.e. the victim, in charge. They can't do any worse.

Career politicians should banned! Get a real job so you know what reality is.

could maybee just stop paying taxes as strength in numbers, but to get that kind of organization is impossiable, but it has been done ,,it is a crime whats happening all around, bad really bad for the children
"I see gas prices went up 2 cents a liter yesterday. We must be getting close to some kind of holiday."

Was watching CBC Toronto. Gas prices all over the province went up 4 cents there. They showed a sign with a price at $1.14
You are right on NMG. If we were to cut the province in half and we were left in the northern half, we would be worse off than we are now. We still need to "sell" whatever we have to the lower part of the province.

I doubt that our drinking Ontario Wine instead of South BC wine would have much of an impact on the wine industry in the southern half, for instance. And people would still retire to the south of anywhere.

Remember, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, etc, have no "natural resources" to speak of. Contries with natural resources do not head up the rich nations, other than those with oil. It is countries with lots of hard working people and lots of technical know how. Natural resources to feed processes can be bought anywhere on the open market.
"Mosque at 5th and Foothills? Wow its..ummmm...interesting"

I love it. Very retro. You want to see interesting, recal the Olympic Sports building downtown which is still all decked out in wonderful colours.

We need more of that sort of fun architecture.
If Corky Evans were to lead the NDP to an election, I predict he would win hands down.
Seamut: Rewriting history? Try explaining that one for me.
Mayor Rogers said that "The amount paid to the police is fixed to the crime rate not the population rate" does this mean they get paid more if there is a high crime rate in the city? I hope not there would be no insentive for them to bring the crime rate down. Could someone please clearify this statment
Hiroshima and Nagasaki what about the estimated +25 million killed by the Japanese. They were innocents. The astrosities commited. How does one think that was going to be stopped? How come the so called liberal thinkers are always beating up the west and or americans but enjoy living the lifestyle. I guess they feel guily while sucking back thier lattes.
Would it not be in Hizzoner Dans best interest to overcome his negative image to park himself in a coffee shop somewhere in town for a few hours one morning once a week so the voting public can bend his ear on certain issues? He might get his credibility (such as it is). Let the folks in PG know that they don't have to wait until the next election to have an audience with him. I'm sure Danno will eventually get the message as to what voters care about. A top cop reads Opinion 250. Sure hope hizzoner does too.
Carol James, take your fairy tale glasses off and see what the taxpayers of BC see.
You're driving the only OTHER party in to the ground. Call Corky EVANS and ask him to take over. He's the only person in BC that can bring the NDP back. And for gods sake, get rid of Sihota, he's the other left foot.
Amen Slim...amen.
Starrider wrote: "Mayor Rogers said that "The amount paid to the police is fixed to the crime rate not the population rate"."

Did he really say that?

So, is this like selling a product? The more you sell, the more you make?

Does not make any sense, does it?

We want to reduce crime. The equation should be that they get paid on their effectiveness, not their ineffectiveness.

The objective is to reduce the cost of policing by making the community safer, not to increase the cost of policing by making it less safe.

In other words, it seems to me that there is no accountability. Ideally, if they were really effective they would get paid more per person because they are high quality people, but need less in total because they can operate with fewer people thus reducing the total operational costs.

I think, these days, it is called working smarter.
Gus the statment was printed in the PG citizen

Here is the link

I do hope that we are not putting the crime rate as how we pay the RCMP like a commission for an unsafe community I have e-mailed mayor Dan for some clarification I do hope he responds to my request.
Thanks for that Starrider.
