Prince George, B.C. -  PGAir is hosting a free workshop today aimed at offering some tips for building cleaner fires this winter -- be they in a chimney or woodstove.

PGAir Air Quality Management Coordinator, Kathryn Graham, says “Novices and seasoned veterans can learn about best firewood storage practices and how to have cleaner, safer, more efficient fires that reduce wood smoke containing fine particulates and other substances that impact air quality and human health.”

The 'Burn It Smart!' workshop runs from 11am until 2pm at the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George office at 155 George Street.  There will be both indoor and outdoor demonstrations and local retailers participating in the Wood Stove Exchange program will also be on-hand.

There otta be a course for all politicians from the municiple level on up on "How to spend it smart!!"
Can we make attendance mandatory for the homeowners of the old homes along the Hart Highway? I can appreciate why people use wood heat; I just wish they could be smarter about their stoves and what they burn. Some nights up here on the Hart it is hard to take a breath without breathing in wood smoke. I can smell it in my house and we don't burn wood.

We all live in this world together. It's not every man for himself. Let's think about how our living affects others.

Wishful thinking.
Next Time the Power is out you just wish to have a Woodstove to warm yourself at -20 and don't say it never happens. The last big outage for us was 36 Hours long. Great not to live in the City.
An event such as this needs publicity before it is actually taking place... I would have attended...
Yes Outwest, your power outage was 36 hours long...I think ours just kinda blinked!
I have absolutely no problem burning wood.
It's a healthier warmth, and very little particulate up the chimney. For those folks who complain about wood smoke, do you go camping, roast marshmellows, wieners etc.??
You probably breathe in more particulates than in a whole winter in PG.
That's life in the Central Interior.
I don't burn wood anymore. It's called bio-fuel, comes in 16" lengths and is about 7" in diameter and has bark on it.
Yeah, I have a bioenergy heating system too. LOVE it!
We also use the premium size bio fuel. 22"x10"-14"
We only burn a minimum of fuel in the chain saw to process it and it does not require power to run so when the hydro goes out it is still warm inside.
Got kind of fancy in PG, Wood Heat is out, Starbucks is in.I only use prime sun dried Pine Beetle loved Trees (no Hst).
