Prince George, BC. - The trial of Prince George City Councillor Brian Skakun, resumes today.

Skakun is charged with breaching the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act in connection with the public release of a confidential report about some City staff members. That report ended up being posted on the CBC website for a time.

The first four days of this trial were bogged down in arguments from Skakun’s lawyer about the release of documents. Those arguments took a day and a half, there was then one and a half days of testimony, and the final day of trial had to be cancelled because the Judge was ill.

During the break between the October court dates and today, Defense and Crown were to work on paring down the witness list to speed up the trial.

Defense though had planned to introduce an argument to have some documents entered as evidence. At issue are the initial complaints which lead to the commissioning of Kitty Heller to examine the complaints. Judge Ball has said the documents have already been dealt with by Kitty Heller, and have no bearing on the matters at hand.
Yet to be called to testify are former Mayor Colin Kinsley, City Manager Derek Bates, and Councilor Debora Munoz who is expected to say Skakun confessed to her that he had leaked the document.
