Following a meet and greet with members of the public, Abbott met with media and said he is fully in support of moving forward with a Wood Innovation and Design Centre, and an engineering school, although he was not able to say when he would have that happen.
Abbott says his vision for the north includes increased opportunities for resource development, both in forestry and mining, the electrification of highway 37, agriculture and tourism. These are areas which Abbott says will generate thousands of jobs for the region.
One of the projects on the radar for the future expansion of the Prince Rupert port is the twinning of highway 16 from Prince Rupert to Hinton Alberta. Abbott says he is not familiar with the idea, but says he would be glad to look at it further.
As for the manner in which a new Liberal leader will be chosen , Abbott says he supports the points system, over the one delegate one vote approach. He says the point system tries to minimize the impact of potential abuse by massive last minute membership sign ups.
Abbott will be in Dawson Creek Monday morning, and will be a guest on Meisner’s program on CFISFM at 9:00 a.m. That program can be heard through live streaming audio on Opinion 250 by clicking on the microphone on the home page.
