Prince George, B.C.- Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Prince George is facing a financial crisis.

The mentoring program  expects  a further reduction in gaming grants, and has experienced a  continued decline in  fundraising efforts.  "Our programming is at risk of shrinking, or worse, discontinuing in the immediate future" says Executive Director Jamie Kanrod

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Prince George has been  providing mentoring programs  to  youth in the community for more than  three decades.  The programs are available free to children and youth whose parents/guardians or school personnel have requested services.

Research shows positive mentoring programs produce positive outcomes such as increased self esteem, reductions in substance abuse, improved academics, and improved relationships with parents and peers.

Kanrod says the financial need is  urgent "We are in desperate need of $75,000.00 from proactive community minded individuals and businesses to assist our 148 volunteers to strengthen and impact our community, one child at a time"

Anyone who can help is encouraged to visit  the Big Brothers Big Sisters  website  www.bbbspg.ca or call 250.563.7410.

This is probably an organization we cannot afford to lose. Kids that don't get the support and attention they need must have these volunteers available to them.

I for one know it is hard to donate left and right, but BBBS do need our help.
Just one more group being screwed by the Lieberal government. Gaming grant cuts are affecting a lot of groups and the citizens are being taxed to death so they can't give to these services that depended on gaming grants.
