Prince George, B.C.-  The Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the Northern Health Authority has issued an Air Quality Advisory for Prince George due to high levels of fine particulate matter.

The provincial air quality objective for fine particles, PM2.5, is 25 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 28 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown site and 18 µg/m3 at College Heights at 10 am today.
The provincial air quality objective for coarse particles, PM10, is 50 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM10 rolling average was 49 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown and 28µg/m3 at College Heights at 8 pm today.
Based on the air quality data, the high levels are mainly due to a combination of wood smoke and emissions from industry.

Stagnant conditions over the region yesterday resulted in pollutants accumulating in the air shed. Winds are expected to increase and conditions are expected to gradually improve over the next 24 hours.

This Air Quality Advisory is expected to be in effect at least until tomorrow morning, with an update to be provided this afternoon at 4:00 pm. today.

The advisory means, the City will be  offering free bus  rides  from midnight tonight, until midnight of the day the  advisory is cancelled ( unless of course  it is on a day when there will be no service such as Christmas and Boxing Day)

How goes the air monitoring? What ever with the particulate levels, what about the smell of money?

Seems to be wafting around downtown from the pulp mills. Hydrogen Suphide is registering in the fair category ....
Is that the H2s thingy that everyone on an industrial site has to take?
Is that the stuff that will kill you in a heartbeat?
Is that the yellow cloud that clings to the ground and flows to the low spots?
NO H2S is colorless. ClO2 is yellow and kills you much faster than H2S.
t'was the night before Christmas, and all the air fairies came out to greet us.

I think it's called road dust today.Seems to be a lot of traffic on the streets.
Any formaldehyde?
Gonna have to have a drop or two, get rid of this lung infection..........
Just spent a month in Kelowna - same fine road dust/fine particulates as here! It shows up everywhere and especially daily on the dash board of the car!

Add the always high humidity (as high as 96%) and the ice cold (as low as -19) wet air blowing across from the lake...what a relief to be back in Prince George!

Shopping? Better here too! Etc.
Wood smoke! What a joke! I can't smell any wood smoke but I can sure smell other crap. Then again, maybe my smell senses are shot all to hell.
Gramma stop baking pies in that old woodstove
dont say anything that might upset op250 because discrediting anyone is lawfull but killing us is quite okay ,how ya doin shirley ?and mrs bell?we all will lose our voices and our health because of well ....just look at the christmas pic of our reps ! what a joke
hey bozo !i agree stop saying anything and take a deep breath because those in victoria really like everywere else have no clue!!!!!!!!
Quick, get Falconer up here! He wants his office here for these special days ........

actually I thought it was a very strange day .... we had a rise of about 8 degrees celsius in a two hour period around lunch and there was barely any wind ........ sure was some baking going on somehere ..... :-)
Gus, its global warming.
Tell that to the UK.
all i know is I have allergies just about every month of the year now whereas 2 years ago I only had hay fever. My lifestyle has much improved because walking and a better diet is supposed to make one healthier. well guess what? I agree it does make you healthier, but if it wasn't for my exercise, PG air would have me a very sick person indeed. I wonder if the people in charge are going to stop spending money on useless tests and start putting some thought into actually doing something about it. Myself and just about every other PG resident knows the air is bad, when we cough for no reason we can pretty much figure out the air is bad, what are those in charge going to do about it?? I wonder what its like to live in a city where the people supposedly in charge actually give a damn about its people?
Close those drive-through windows with their lines of idling SUVs.
