Beer Can Flow At Cougar Games

City Council may not realize it, but it did pass a resolution last night that would allow a one year pilot project to  allow beer sales at Cougar games.

The resolution read:

"Permit the sale of alcohol at events aimed at adults, which retain a ticket pricing strategy that includes different admission prices for different age groups."

The backgrounder clearly indicates  this includes WHL  games and would allow for the set up of  beer sales on the lower concourse at CN Center.  But Councillors and the Mayor, seem confused as to what they did or didn't pass.

The Mayor voted in favour, but thought this resolution only  referred to  things like rodeos, or special shows.

Councilor Scott voted in favour, but didn't know it covered Cougar games.

Councilors Skakun, Basserman and Zarowski voted  in favour and knew the Cougars were included.

Councilors Sethen and Dezell voted against this resolution  and although it ultimately passed, neither one believed it would allow beer sales at Cougar games.

Can you imagine this? Some councillors did not realize what they passed? That is extremely telling of some of their intelligence levels. Can you imagine not knowing what you were voting on? Do ordinary citizens show up to vote without knowing the name of provincial or federal party they are voting for. IMO these "confused " councillors shouls step down immediately. Don't get me wrong, the plex is long overdue for some alchohol sales to the regular "joes" outside the luxury suites. I watched the "dog and pony show" put on at city hall last night and it was embarassing to witness.
Peace out and bring on the beer.
Jeez, I really cannot see what is wrong with making a buck or two off some booze at Sports Games!!!! I would even suggest they go further and throw in some slot machines as booze has a tendency to loosen those gambling inhibitions. I think it is time Old Colin and his crew really looked at how to make a dollar, and the bucks poured into those VLT's will make water meter charges look like less than petty cash. Dezel is leaving, and Sethen should shuffle aside without too much fanfare, so let's get on with making a real buck. Then the gaming centre proposed by the city should automatically get that liquor flowing, as gambling and drinking make for good times when combined. Maybe the cops could concentrate on those locations and pick up some extra moola for fines-and don't we get half that too. Given a reasonable length of time, we won't need to tax the hell out of the residents. They will part with their money willingly. Oh yeah, have to legalize and tax marijauna and hookers havens. Now that will be a real pay off. The pawn shops have to stay!!!! The people need someplace to dispose of their goods for cash to support these new habits. Garage sales just won't cut it. The thieves will have to start breaking into the pawn shops for goods, but really, there will be no buyers, so why bother.Stops crime!!! They can take the whole crew at City Hall on holidays with all this legalized income. That Sentech advisory bunch will come up with proposals that will take years to materialize. I'd like to see action Now. Let's quit wasting time. It'll be a real blast.
Hey Gypsy,
you forgot to mention that the city could also look into renting out a few rooms in the basement of the plex for a brothel,(you know ...a real cathouse)think about it,you could go to the game play some slots during the warm up then get a belly full of beer, scream a few profanities, then after the second period when the cats are trailing 8-1 to the expansion Chilliwack bruins you could just go downstairs and do your thing. After your finished you go back to your seat so you can watch the cougars get there butts kicked in the last minutes fights of the game....Now thats entertainment
now we're getting somewhere, step aside council. the boys and i are running town.
peace out.
