Prince George, B.C. - A decision on the continuation of the Air  Quality Advisory in Prince George will be  released  around 9:00 this morning.  Until then, the Advisory remains in effect.  That means,  there will be free transit  today,  and until midnight of the day the advisory is cancelled.

As of 4:00 yesterday afternoon, the  24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 25 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown site and 16 µg/m3 at College Heights.  The provincial air quality objective for fine particles, PM2.5, is 25 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours

The provincial air quality objective for coarse particles, PM10, is 50 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM10 rolling average was 42 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown and 25 µg/m3 at College Heights at 4 pm today.
Based on the air quality data, the high levels are mainly due to a combination of wood smoke and emissions from industry.

If we really cared about Prince George air quality we would do some obvious things right off:
While we have a campaign to cut idling, we have long lines of idling vehicles at junk food take-outs.
Eliminate take out windows. If people insist on eating and drinking in their vehicles (a safety issue in itself) let them go inside to buy.
But we couldn't do that, could we? Not as long as we have an NLA who earns his bread by owning fast food take-outs.
All those wood burning appliances the consulting group from California located in PG. The 1 in 4 homes who burn wood. Certainly can't blame it on the pellet plant this week.
Where or where is the air fairy? Probably getting a coffee at a drive thru.
Surely, the nimbrods that enforce the air fairies rules must be reading this blog site.

We live in a gritty little mill town. We don't care about those minute little particles that much. Don't tell us what to do. If we want to use our wood stove, we will because we have rights too. If we want to warm up our Diesel trucks out side we will too. If we die of lung issues, at least, I will die with a smile.

I can just see it now. The City gets taken to court due to loss of business. The City can't prove that there is a cause and effect. The air quality will continue to be exceeded. And, if it sticks in court, then the pople will march with signs on City Hall demanding that industry find other ways to handle their emissions, citing that what works with the retail industry works just as well with the manufacturing sector.

Actually, with the most recent report of where the particulates come from, they should be shutting down all restaurants downtown until they get better filtering systems in place to handle the particulates from burning meat, etc.
