Prince George, B.C.-  The Big Brothers Big Sisters  organization  in Prince George  has received a bit of  holiday boost.

Just before Christmas, Jamie Kranrod, the  Executive Director of the Big Brothers  Big Sisters agency in Prince George,  issued a plea  for  help, saying  programs offered by Big Brothers Big Sistrs were in jeopardy because of a lack of funding.

"Our programming is at risk of shrinking, or worse, discontinuing in the immediate future" said Kanrod.  She said the agency was  is "desperate need  of $75 thousand dollars".

The Canadian Western Bank locally raised $500 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince George, with their annual fall Greater Interest GIC Campaign. These funds will assist the Big Brothers Big Sisters and their 148 volunteers to continue to diminish risk for local vulnerable children and youth in our community. Nationally Canadian Western Bank raised over $150,000+ for Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies.

There is still a long way to go before the local BBBS  will have the $75 thousand it needs, but, the  pre-Christmas  boost from the Canadian  Western Bank was a  welcome start.

Does anyone know if the big banks develop trust funds or set up investment accounts solely for the purpose of helping our charities? It seems that they would be in the best position to do money raising projects from the massive profits they make every year or even delegate a portion of those earnings towards food banks, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Salvation Army etc., etc.
