The Chilliwack Bruins returned the favour to the Prince George Cougars Tuesday night to come out of the Christmas break.  After the Cougars shut-out the Bruins in Chilliwack November 24, the Bruins blanked the Cougars at CN Centre 3-0 to open a mid-week double-header.

The Cougars were looking to extend their winning streak to four after entering the Christmas break with wins over Swift Current and Kamloops, twice over the latter.  The Bruins were fourth in the BC Division and coming off a 1-0 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings on December 17, where Lucas Gore made 42 saves.  Gore was back in net Tuesday and stopped all 29 shots he faced from the Cougars, including 15 in the third period.

Mike Forsyth opened the scoring for the Bruins on the power play at 10:56 of the first period, banging home a loose puck near the Cougars goal.  Mitch Topping scored in the second at 8:51 on a deflected shot from the blue line, beating Cougars goalie Ty Rimmer over the right arm.  Curt Gogol added an empty netter with 1:23 left in regulation to finish the scoring and improve the Bruins record to 17-14-2-1, while the Cougars fall to 18-15-2-1.  Rimmer stopped 22 of 24 shots he faced in the Cougars goal.

Prince George went 0-for-5 on the power play.  The Bruins, with the top ranked power play going into the game, were 1-for-8.

The Cougars, who now sit second in the BC Division, one point back of front-running Kelowna, will look for win 19 in their final game of 2010 Wednesday night, starting at 7:00pm at CN Centre.  Tickets are available by calling Ticketmaster at 250-564-5585.

The game officials were horrible. No excuse for the loss but hopefully tomorrow nite the officiating will improve.
Officiating hit a new low last night. Disgusting when the refs think we pay money to see them try to outdo each other
