Prince George, B.C. – There is no excuse for drinking and driving tonight.

Operation Red Nose is still in operation, Prince George Transit will be offering free rides from 7 p.m. until 3.a.m. and if that isn’t enough, the RCMP are making it clear they will be out in full force tonight.

Both the local and North District detachments will have staff on the roads making sure drivers get home safe.

Corporal Craig Douglass  says  the CounterAttack program will be looking for anyone who may have had one too many before getting behind the wheel of a vehicle “We are once again asking that members of our community take a few extra moments to arrange a safe and sober ride home.  Both offices of the RCMP in Prince George have increased the amount of members on the road enforcing both Criminal and Motor Vehicle Act offences.”

This year police are also calling on the public to keep tabs on others. They urge that if you see someone trying to drive while under the influence of drugs including alcohol, that you call 9-1-1 and report what you see.

Hmmmmm ... and if there is a real emergency? .. hopefully the 911 operators are not busy on nuisance calls.
"will be looking for anyone who may have had one too many before getting behind the wheel"

I'm sure this is a typo.... "one too many"?! Really...

Should read: "We will be out looking for anyone who has had one drink before getting behind the wheel"

Seems like the police state that is BC needs to update the propaganda it spews out to the masses! Hmmm, I see a 6 figure contract for some friends of the government to do that...

A safe and happy new year to all!
"One too many"...that is a laugh. How about if you are even near someone who has had a drink. Exactly Northern Joe. This will be the new years eve of statistics. Lower the drinking limit to damn near zero, throw every cop available on the street, round em up and release the tragic numbers to the public in the morning. In this new police state will we all have to dress the same??
Happy New Years!!
Wow are we back in the 70's ? Don't worry you won't be arrested sitting at your keyboard. Even if you have started hitting the sauce this early.
I hope to see in the newspaper on monday that no one was caught drunk driving... but the realist in me know that will never happen...
so until then I hope the police catch them all... and the courts dish out the maximums, and that I know won't happen either
I have to wonder out loud if those who refer to B.C. as a police state have ever had or know someone who, have had a police officer show up that door with their hat held under their arm and inform them - that someone you loved will not be coming home ever again. The reason being that he or she just happened to be crossing through an intersection on a green light when an alleged drunk (have to say alleged because we all know innocent until proven guilty in a court of law) fails to see the red light and board sides there vehicle killing them instantly.

Here's to you Huh? I can only hope you or someone you know never ever have to live through that

Happy New Years!! And may it be a safe one!!
Fine with me, don't drink and drive , I guess if you are impaired after 1 Drink, how large was that 1 Drink I wonder?
The Question I ask , how come there are so many empty Beer Cans in the Ditches ? Take your Bike in the Summer and take a ride down Blackwater, you will get an Eye opener what you find.
Happy New Year
Getagrip:
You said it all very well. Thanks.
Some people should try out Thailand or different areas of Africa if they think this is a police state. In Thailand if you are found with drugs in your possession, you're shot and killed on the spot.
As far as a notification by police that your son, brother sister etc. is dead, that's a shock that no one ever forgets, especially the children.
Keep it safe folks. And Happy New Year.
The last time I reported a drunk driver no one showed up. The last time I was a witness in a drunk driver crash at Hwy 16 and Domano he was let go because the case took to long. Don't hold your breath waiting for my phone call!
