Prince George, B.C.- Lawyers for the Crown and Defense in the trial of City Councilor Brian Skakun will be back in court today to try and set a date for the final two days of trial.

The Judge had  requested two days be set aside, although he  said  the second day would be a "back up" in case the the one day wasn't enough.

Skakun is accused of breaching the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act after a confidential  personnel report  made its way into the hands of the media.  The trial  saw three days of testimony in October,  then another four  in December.

Skakun's lawyer is hoping  the  trial dates will be set for  sometime in March.

The defense plans to call at least one more witness, and there is a possibility Skakun himself  may take the stand.

what a colossal waste of time and money
It is rarely recommended that a defendent take the stand in his own defense. The reason for this of course is that once he is on the stand he is open to cross examinaton by the prosecution.

I suspect that this trial is being used to shine more light on everything that transpired on this subject since its inception. Problem is, if Skakun admits under cross examination that he did in fact forward this document to the CBC, then the trial is over, because that is (legally) what the trial is about, and is what he is charged with.
Skakun the only councilor with the balls to stand up to the manderins at City hall and they take him to court and waste more tax dollars. What a bunch of clowns.
Cheers
I liked the way Brian handle things at council. He was good at what he did.

I wonder if he did leak the information, and was hoping that with a good lawyer, he could get away with it. The problem is, it is quite humbling to be infront of the judge. There are a thousand lies, but only one truth.
Sure would have been nice if we could have left all this BS in 2010. City election this year?
Sure would have been nice if we could have left all this BS in 2010.
Skakun is just a councilman.. if he is found guilty he should step down immediatly and never be seen in the spot light again.. If he is not guiltly..he should step down immediatly and never be heard from again.

Any councilperson who threatens people for posting thier opinions on a blog like this certainly shows he doesnt have the b*lls to be in politics..

Skakun.. please just GO AWAY
Step down for a silly little misdemeanor?? How about all the double talk we get from PG mayors. How about all the provincial and Federal lies and double talk?
Some guy lets us in on the truth and for that you think he should be chastised??
As for threats; we all make them every day so lets not play the Jesus role OK?
I for one am glad that Mr. Skakun is my councilor and not one of the sheep that follow the heard in city hall.
I support Brian right or wrong . Brian had GUTS, and Val we need councilors with some GUTS to take some civil courage to to clean up our City, we are in trouble. When we support needles on wheels in residential areas with lots of children to see the riff raff going to get their condoms ,crack pipes and needles in their less desirable neighbourhood , what message is that sending to these children? We need to take back Prince George and one way to start GET RID OF THE GAS GUZZLING VAN, but then one feeds off of the other.
How can we take back Princ George ?? Keep Brian Skakun on council and vote in some other councilors with some GUTS.
Exactly supertech.. its a silly misdemeanor that has taken up so much of the courts time.

Jesus role.. thats funny.. brian has proven he doesnt have the skin to be in politics..

Also what has he done for us.. lets see.. my taxes are higher..snow removal is worse.. roads are horrible.. so what is so good about this guy.. nothing that I can see.

I love what bitter posted.." I support brian right or wrong" so if he is found guilty you will support him and be able to trust him in any kind of public office.. Now that is just plain scarey.
