P.G. Lions Club Members Mike Walch and Marlita Whyte  add another discarded Christmas tree to the pile

Prince George, B.C.-  The pile of discarded Christmas trees is growing in the southeast parking lot at the CN  Centre in Prince George.

That's where  the  LIons Club of P.G. will accept your  tree, and make sure it is put to good use.

"The City will come and  mulch all the trees" says Lions Club member Marlita Whyte, " then they add it to the compost  at Foothills where it will be spread throughout the City parks in the spring". Disposal of the trees is by donation.

There was a time when the Lions Club used to  come around and pick up the discarded trees, but Whyte says that  became too expensive  because of the rising costs of fuel.

With many people doing their post-Christmas clean up today,  Marlita says she expects tomorrow will be much busier  at the tree drop-off.

The  drop off, in the south east corner of the CN Centre parking lot,  is available today until 3 p.m. and again tomorrow (Sunday) from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Lets see there is slash burning. There is bio-energy aka woodburning but no xmas tree burning, amazing.
I'm confused. The city (ie the taxpayers) will come and mulch the trees yet disposal is "by donation"????? You lost me there. If I lived in the city I'd just burn it on a Saturday; no chance of any bylaw people ticketing you then.
No problem with bylaws regarding burning on week days either. They can talk to you but there is no fine on the books so they can't fine you. That's what I was told by the city by law officer that came to my house after I complained.
