Mechanical faults in a police car? They are not very old. Maybe it can be blamed on being a Ford. Grasping fer straws methinks. The only mechanical faults to be found are in RCMP ticketed cars and trucks. If there was a mechanical fault wouldn't it be found by the "pre-maintenance" mechanic? I hope this issue doesn't disappear. At least he didn't get hit doing a U-turn. They do that you know.
Mechanical fault? Maybe. Driver not paying attention? Probably. Taxpayer paying the bill? Definately!
was there alchol invloved?
just last week i seen a cruiser doing donuts in the pheonix building parking lot around 9 40 pm. i was about to call it in
Young constable? Lower mainlander? hmmm.
pgguru, that was winter driver training, cutbacks to budget an' all you know?
Bet this constable is getting the ribbing of his or her life, LOL.
This is what happens when they start racing to Tim's for the last donut. Maybe they should slow down like the rest of us.
Texting on that big keyboard.
What a bunch of bitter people...
you all get tickets recently or something....sheeeesh

yes police cars are relatively new, but have a lot of miles on them...
and there some places out there that are pretty slick....
inexperienced winter driver...maybe...
mechanical fault...maybe...
but it isn't for me to point fingers, I don't have all the evidence...
BCRacer...tell it to the judge. Hey, we're all judges. That's why we are all here on Opinion 250. Judging other people is great sport. Doncha know?
Too fast for road condtions, give him a ticket like he would a civilian.
Suddenly no mention of wheher or not 'alcohol was a factor'. Joking, but why does it have to be in EVERY other accident report?
I'm sure after they get their own to investigate it, the officer was at no way responsible and acted in a proper manner.
So many witnesses..
Driver .... car .... road .... weather ... God.

I think it was an act of God.

funny you should mention that, just last week I was headed to work at 4:30 am and there was a police car and SUV doing donuts in the College Heights high school parking lot. Stopped to take a video on my I Phone, thought it would look good on YouTube, but they quickly took off. All I could think of is that I was going to work to pay to pay taxes to support these morons.
cops and doing donuts in parking lots and tims,2011 bring it innnnnnnnnn
they dont deserve this new building
think the driver "was known to police"
Back to the original portion of the article, he / she was probably using the on-board laptop and driving at the same time and wasn't driving with due care and diligence.

Other areas of the province have started to restrict the officers from driving and operating the laptop at the same time due to the amount of accidents.
That's news to me lunarguy. I would say Gus is closest to the truth here...with the added factor of perhaps the member being overtired at the time. I remember one cold snowy night driving down the Hart hwy, I was exhausted and went off road right into and along a ditch them back up onto the highway just missing a fire hydrant.
Not a scratch...to me or the car..lucky as hell... My adrenalin, an open window and cold air got me to the nearest community policing office to take a breather and a hot cup of coffee. It happens.
And I'm glad the cop is alright. Frazzled no doubt and likely to catch s&%t after the results of the analysis of the crash are completed, but you can replace a car, not a person.
Geez Imorge your comments describe impaired driving to a T.
This story should have been kept out of the publics scrutiny. We're too critical to read a story like this.
Love the blurb "blurb" :)
Imorge, this is why alcohol gets such a bad wrap. .05 is NOTHING compared to driving while tired. Added to the fact you are a crappy driver we should all be notified when you get behind the wheel.
"We're too critical to read a story like this."

Until one of us screws up, makes a mistake, has something go wrong without doing anything to cause it! Then we want everybody to be kind and understanding, compassionate, caring and forgiving!

Double standard.
I am a very good driver tractor. As for being tired behind the wheel, you can blame management for making us work shortstaffed and not calling in extra bodies. After that I took myself off the road that night until refreshed and ready to go back out...how many do not do that?
And the arm chair quarterbacking goes on and on. Its great to be prefect.

Maybe - hopefully - once the complete investigation is done they the police will release the end results as a owner of a FORD it would be great to find out if it was a machanical issue or not.. Or if a charge is issued or not.
Me too Imorge. When I make a serious driving mistake because I'm over tired or something else is bothering me to that extent, I take myself off the road. Much better to lose a few dollars that I could have made than losing a whole bunch due to an accident.
Impaired is impaired. Whether it`s alcohol, fatigue or even emotions. Just think before you do it. That cop could have been impaired by his friggin laptop.

It's pretty hard to do "EXTENSIVE DAMAGE"
Let's try that again.

It's pretty hard to do "EXTENSIVE DAMAGE" to a vehicle of that size at 50kph. At 50kph the fence should have been enough to stop him/her. To continue on and fight with a power pole - that takes inertia. You can pretty well rest assured that driving too fast for conditions is behind this one. Charges - yeah right. Probably paid for it big time at the station!
