Prince George, B.C. -  Agriculture goes urban...

With more than half of the world's population now living in cities, agriculture, too, has moved into the cityscape.  An organic gardening expert is in Prince George today and tomorrow to discuss the possibilities that go along with this trend.

Ron Berezan is a Master Gardener and a member of the Society of Organic Urban Land Care Professionals.  He has extensive training in the 'Bio-Intensive' organic gardening method and in permaculture design.

Berezan will be speaking at a public presentation at the Bob Harkins branch of the Prince George Public Library at 7pm and will discuss a range of models for growing food in urban areas -- from private yards to public spaces -- and how to do so in northern communities, like Prince George.

Admission to the presentation in the Keith Gordon Room is by donation of a non-perishable food item.

Tomorrow, the library will host a three-hour workshop featuring Berezen for those city residents looking to transform their yard and create a natural, sustainable, and edible landscape.  Tickets for the workshop are $35 and are available at REAPS at 1950 Gorse Street.

Prince George residents have been growing gardens in their back yards for a hundred years. I am sure there are thousands of gardens put in every year. Perhaps we could give this fella some advice on how to grow a garden, and what to grow in the Northern climes.
