Maintaining Momentum For 2015

Prince George, B.C. -  It is the first of what the Winter City Committee hopes will become an annual event leading up to the 2015 Winter Games...

The committee is hosting a community-wide skating party, of sorts.  Between 1pm and 3pm this afternoon, city residents are being encouraged to take to the ice at four outdoor rinks:  the Ice Oval, the Prince George Railway and Forestry Museum, Westwood rink, and the Civic Plaza.

Committee member, Betty Burbee, says, "The thinking behind it is - we convinced the Canada Games judges that Prince George is a winter city and we're hoping that this event will maintain the enthusiasm for hosting the 2015 Canada Winter Games and also encourage people to enjoy one of the benefits of living in Prince George, which is outdoor skating."

She says the event is free and open to everyone, although the railway museum is hopeful people will bring along canned items to donate to the food bank.  Burbee says a number of local businesses have donated some great (out)door prizes, so people coming out on what will be a bit of a chilly afternoon have the possibility of being rewarded.

Burbee is encouraging people to pop out and take part, even if it's for only one or two turns around the ice, "Then you've been a participant and I think that's worthwhile."

"The thinking behind it is - we convinced the Canada Games judges that Prince George is a winter city",??? what for one day of skating the judges are going to be swayed.???..get real they can't be that stupid or blind...but you play your game...
i am not interested in it...
I do not care and will not freeze my butt for the Winter City Committee. They are not doing us any favours, except taking more of what we don't have our money.
From the look of it out there just now nobody will be going anywhere to soon. Looks like a weekend to stay inside till they plow everything so we can get around without to much of a problem.
Hows about we all just shovel our drives? That will be a mass winter city event...
Do they have zambonies for all those rinks?

;-)

I think they'll be lucky if they can get the ice cleared for any skating. This will be a good test. What will happen if we get TOO MUCH snow?

1. Will the outdoor venues and the routes to both the indoor and outdoor venues be cleared in time for the events.

2. Will the rest of the city residents get less service at that time because the capacity will be shifted to the needs of the Winter Games.

If anyone that has an influence on the planning reads this, it would be great to get some serious answers to what I consider to be serious questions.

Interesting that one has to be prepared for not enough snow, such as was the case of the filming of Dreamcatcher which almost shifted its filming start to Mackenzie in early February of that year, as well as too much snow.
The only momentum I see from Rodgers and council is the continued increase in taxes, and spend, spend, spend.
Rodger's momentum continues to ignore the fact the public want Civic expenditures reduced, and would just really like the city to maintain core services like snow removal, and road repair

Is there a Rob Ford who will step forward and run for mayor in the next election?
Resident; we had one last time. Have you forgotten?
