Why Were Charges Laid So Quickly In Kelowna Beating

By Ben Meisner

Why have the Abbotsford police investogators suggested so quickly that charges should be laid in the Buddy Tavares  case?
Tavares is the man who was kicked in the head  by  a Kelowna RCMP officer.

Is the  jump to charges the result of  300 people taking to the streets in Kelowna on Sunday afternoon to,  as the rally chanted, “Stop Police brutality”.

We most assuredly didn’t get this quick a response in the Dziekanski tazering death, and as a matter of fact, the Pritchard video was seized by police who they even sought court action in trying to prevent its release.

The RCMP brass initially came out with the notion that the arrest was done because Buddy Tavares was the subject of a domestic dispute, they also added the notion that Tavares had been walking around with a loaded shot gun.

If you watched the video , which most people in Canada have by now, (including the Commissioner of the RCMP) you would clearly see that there was a trigger lock on the gun, and Buddy’s family said, sorry there hasn’t been any domestic violence , so that story didn’t hold up with the public.

The organizer of the rally, John Hewitson said people are sick and tired and don’t want to tolerate police being paid while they are under investigation.

The RCMP on the other hand were saying they were worried the rally could turn violent.

That has to be the reason why the matter was investigated and the charges recommended with break neck speed.

Now one wonders if in order to get this kind of action, you have to have a camera rolling , and a person using that camera who is not prepared to give up that film in the interest of the  "investigation."

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s’ opinion.

as of this morning (18th) no charges have actually been laid, the timing makes it look like they just wanted to defuze the protest

what ever happened to Richard Peck? the 'special' prosecutor who was supposed to decide wether or not to finally chage the killers of Robert Dziekanski? he was assigned to the job way back in July 2010 and so far has said exactly zilch

how can anyone have any respect for these people? they are thugs and behave, from top to bottom, just like thugs, what about Ian Bush? what about Curt Dagenais?

if character is the sum of qualities proven over time then the character of the RCMP is now well established ... thugs, and the obvious response is fear not respect.

They are turning into just another Gang to deal with in BC.
Fact of the matter is the ;people who are responsible and who have to take action against the police are.

1. The Attorney Generals Office

2. The Federal Government who is responsible for the RCMP in Canada

3. The Mayors and Council who hire these police to work for them. Cities pay for this police protection, and are involved in the hiring of the Superintendents. We should be putting pressure on the police Superintendent, and the Government from the local level.

4. The Superintendents of Police who are responsible for the police on the ground.

It should not be necessary in a free and democratic Country like Canada to have people going to the streets to get action on problems like this. We have highly paid people in place to look after these issues, and it is up to them to take action asap when situations like this occur. It is not their responsibilit to hide behind all sorts of inquiries, etc; to try and circumvent the system.

The Police Officer who commited this brutality is the face of the problem, however the real problem is the lack of will by our Justice System, and our Elected Officials to take action.

Write an email or letter to the Attorney General, and the Conservative Government and demand action.

As in the tazering video where the four cops denied to the bitter end they did nothing wrong. It's the same as the Kelowna cop video. We must believe the RCMP and not what we are seeing in these videos. There were the cops in Victoria kicking the man in the ribs when he was down, again not what we saw. Police investigated and he did nothing wrong. The poor chinese man in Vancouver that got his head kicked in at 4 am, investigated and cleared. I guess he should have never been home that night. This video from Kelowna, you can see the cop stepping back, lining up the kick as the man is getting out. No matter what happened there that man was taking a lined up kick to the face. Furthermore why was his gun out? He says on video, report of disgruntled employee, press release states, report of domestic dispute. I also like on the video where the cop asks the cameraman not to get his face on video. Thank God for the Kelowna man that cameraman was there.
Bottom line I guess is, believe your law enforcement , not your lying eyes!!
I'm almost 33 and I've never been the victim of police brutality. But then again, I've never broken the law. Go figure. hmmmmmmm makes sense.
Tavares had never had any trouble with the law before.. and he got kicked in the head for no reason...go figure...
I wonder Long if you where him what you might be writing.
Gary Long. You dont know what you are talking about. Who said this guy broke the law??? And if he did, what was it, Dangerous use of a firearm. He was scaring geese off the golf course, which apparently was part of his job.

In any event the penalty for the crime (if it was a crime) is for the courts to decide, not the police.

Why was this man presumed guilty, and kicked in the head, while the police officer, who obviously assaulted him, is allowed to be suspened with pay, and then eventually (maybe) charged with a crime.

If the law was being administered as it should be, the other police officer should have arrested the *kicker* on the spot and charged him with assault. He has the authority to do that. Why didnt he???
Just like any fraternity, they look after their own. I know a retired RCMP guy who told me the saying in the force was: it is better to be tried by twelve than carried by six. Problem here is , they never get tried and it is easier to win a lottery than for a cop to get shot by an unarmed man.
Believe me, if there's one thing G-Lo is, it is simplistic. That post is not surprising considering the source.
Pretty sure it's not legal to carry firearms around, but anyways, everyone on here knows everything.......I'll just go back to being simplistic. Life is much better without breaking laws and getting into trouble with the cops. Cheers.
WTF?? Is this guy stunned? Simplistic is a compliment.
Trucker. I never said it was a bad thing being simplistic. I said "

I'll just go back to being simplistic"

I like my simplistic life. Not stunned at all. Such negativity on this site. All the time. Sad really.
"Pretty sure it's not legal to carry firearms around"

Since when is it illeagle to carry firearms around?
I'm not going to waste any more time on this. Bottom line is this.....

The guy obviously did something to alarm the public and have the police pull him over. They were told he had a shot gun and that he was a disgruntled employee. I'm not saying the cop was in the right to kick the dude in the face, but what I'm saying is why were the cops chasing him down in the first place. It wasn't for no reason. Keep your nose clean, you'd be suprised what little trouble you can get into with the law.

And as for firearms, it is most definitely illegal to carry firearms around without a permit. Don't know what country you think this is. But I'm done on this. I'm off to enjoy the rest of my day. Cheers everyone.
What a moron.
