Air Quality Co-Ordinator Still a Possible Post

The Mayor's task force on Air Quality hopes to have its initial report ready this fall with hopes of having possible action items added to the 2007 budget. That's why some Councilors think the budget request for an Environmental Co-Ordinator on Air Quality is premature.
"We need to hear from the Committee before we make any moves" said Councilor Glenn Scott, but Don Bassermann doesn't agree. He thinks a contingency fund should be setup, and dollars from that fund could be used for this position now. Councilor Sherry Sethen sees the position as being valuable for the environmental impact of developments and supported the item being deferred for further discussion. Councilor Murray Krause says this is too big an issue for the community for the item to be ignored.
So even though the Mayor's Task force won't bring in a preliminary report for another 6 months, the position is still on the books and will be re-examined at a later budget meeting.
The position calls for opperational costs of $89,000 in wages, benefits, vehicle and communications.
