Prince George, B.C. -  The local host society of the 2011 World Baseball Challenge received a large financial boost today...

The Hosting BC program -- a provincial program aimed at building B.C.'s reputation as a premier hosting destination -- has given the local group $20-thousand dollars towards this summer's event.

In addition, the Prince George Judo Club has been given five-thousand dollars to host an open tournament, and Prince George Gymnastics has received a three-thousand dollar grant for an invitational tournament.

"This funding is fantastic news because it supports events that are fun for families and recognizes the hard work of these groups," says Prince George-Valemount MLA, Shirley Bond.  "I'm certainly excited to see the 2011 World Baseball Challenge this summer, not to mention the excitement it will bring to our city."
