Prince George, B.C. -  Premier Gordon Campbell encouraged Prince George to 'Go Bold' as it prepares to host the country in four years time for the 2015 Canada Winter Games...

The premier was on-hand at a ceremony in the main concourse of the Civic Centre this afternoon, for the 'next step' in the city's preparation to host the Games.  Campbell was joined by local MLAs, Shirley Bond and Pat Bell, the original Bid Committee Co-Chairs, Mayor Dan Rogers and Les Waldie, and a small, but enthusiastic crowd for the official introduction the founding members of the 2015 Canada Winter Games Host Society.

When the city was announced as the winning bid back on September 17th, the Premier said at that time, 'History will be made in Prince George', now he's saying we need to dream big to make that the case...

Today, Campbell told those gathered, "Whatever you can do or dream you can do, begin it.  Boldness has genius, power and magic in it -- show Canada the magic of Prince George in 2015,"

"Now, here, in 2015 in Prince George, you have the opportunity to remind Canada of what an exciting place Prince George is - how the north is really an incredibly important part of our future," says Campbell.  "And the young people of the north, in fact, are going to be magnets with their ideas and their energy to bring other people here to the north, not just to Prince George, but to across our Northern region in British Columbia."

The founding members of the Host Society are:

  • Chair - Anthony Everett, CEO of Northern Tourism B.C.
  • Derek Bates, City Manager of Prince George

Who are half of these people? Nice start.
Would have liked to have seen more female members on this host society? Why only 2? PG and surrounding areas have a lot of wonderfully talented women who would have been a huge asset to this society. Interesting.
