Burns Lake, B.C. - Rumours swirling around the community of Burns Lake in connection with the recent murder of a 17-year-old girl have prompted the RCMP to issue a plea to area residents...

"We request the public exercise patience and refrain from spreading unsubstantiated information," says Sergeant Rob Vermeulen, Senior Media Relations Officer for the RCMP's "E" Division.

Burns Lake officers were called to a residence on Uncha Mountain Road on the southside of Francois Lake on January 26th, where they found the teen already deceased.  An autopsy last week confirmed foul play, but police are not releasing the details surrounding Chassidy Charlie's death.

Sergeant Vermeulen says homicide investigators from the North District Major Crime Unit, with assistance from Burns Lake RCMP, continue to work diligently to solve the case.  But, he says, the rumour mill is hampering their efforts, "Obviously everything has to be followed up on, and these rumours take away time that could be better spent investigating solid information.”

Investigators have said from the outset they believe the teen's murder was an isolated incident, not a random attack.  Vermeulen says information gathered at the scene is still being processed, and the investigation is moving forward.
