2011 Opening Ceremonies Underway In Halifax

Prince George, B.C. - The countdown is over in Halifax, where the official ceremonies to celebrate the start of the 2011 Canada Winter Games are underway...
There will be 3600 athletes from across the country competing in 22 sporting events over the course of the next two weeks.

Prince George Mayor Dan Rogers and several members of the 2015 Host Society are there for the event, which will feature the athletes parade and lighting of the Games cauldron.
Competition begins tomorrow with the start of men's hockey, ringette, and long-track speedskating at the outdoor ice oval built specifically for the 2011 Games.

Meantime, a flag raising ceremony was held in front of city hall at 2:30pm to raise the Canada Games flag and launch the four-year countdown to the start of the 2015 Games in Prince George.
