Prince George, B.C. - It's a rare opportunity for Grade 12 students from three local districts to hit the college campus today... Instructors in CNC's Natural Resources and Environmental Technology program have opened the doors today to students from Prince George, Vanderhoof and Quesnel. CNC has teamed up with the Council of Forest Industries and UNBC to offer the 17-year-olds a first-hand look at what the course entails and discover the job opportunities that could lie ahead. NRET graduates are meant to be the people physically on the ground collecting data, summarizing and analyzing, reporting results and implementing and enforcing environmental standards for forestry, mining, oil and gas and other companies. For two hours today, the visiting grade 12 students will tackle hands-on labs that include soil analysis and how to make water go further during fire suppression. CNC's first class of NRET students will graduate with their two-year diplomas in May. Program instructor, Ed Morrice, says "Many of our first-year students and graduates have had multiple offers of employment." And he says, "I fully expect that all students and graduates will have job offers before they complete classes this spring."
